[Question #12753] Genital Secretions Mode of Transmissions
5 months ago
|
I recently had condom-protected sex with a partner, but we also engaged in spooning during sleep where my penis came into contact with her vaginal or rectal secretions, possibly even blood. Given this, I am wondering if there is a risk of STD transmission through this indirect contact, even though the condom was used during intercourse.Could you please clarify whether this type of contact could potentially lead to the transmission of STDs?

Welcome back to the forum.
Condoms work -- the main thing is that that a condom was used and did not break. Brief genital contact prior to penetration carries no risk for HIV and little if any risk for other STDs. That blood was present makes no difference: the amount of HIV in genital fluids is just as high as in blood. And unprotected sex during menstruation is no more risky for HIV than sex without blood contact. There is no need to test for HIV or other STDs; and if you have a regular partner, you can safely continue your usual sexual practices with that person..
I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thanks Dr. Handsfield. Penetration was condom protected, but then we slept together the whole night and I was spooning her and I felt her secretion. Does this change your assessment?

No this doesn't change anything.---

Just for clarification purposes, STDs and in particular HIV and Hepatitis transmission take place only with penetration deep inside vagina, rectum or rarely mouth, am I right?

True statements, with perhaps very rare exceptions.
That completes the two follow-up comments and replies included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope you found the discussion useful. Best wishes and stay safe.
