[Question #12774] Urine test question

Hello, I had a question about urine testing for Chlamydia/gonorrhea. When I took the test, I waited approx 3 hrs since my last urination. I was told to only deposit "1st catch" urine and fill up the cup about halfway. When I urinated in the cup, I stopped after a bit because my stream stopped. The cup was not half way full so I did that 2 more times-urinated a bit more and checked volume. I also filled it up a bit more than halfway. So my questions are- I'm wondering if by stopping and starting urination the test won't be as accurate because technically wasn't first catch, and also because I voided more urine than needed, it would dilute the results? I read that only 20-50 ML of urine is needed and I probably provided double that. Thank you very much for your time!

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. Have confidence in your test results- urine tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia are highly forgiving. The specimen you describe will provide reliable results and not be negatively affected by the increased volume of the specimen, nor by the fat that you stopped and started several times in the collection process. If the specimen is negative, you can be confident that you do not have urethral gonorrhea or chlamydia. EWH---

I'm not sure what you're asking. While the "official" recommendations are to obtain a specimen from the beginning of urination. As far as the volume of the specimen is concerned, to even have a chance of effecting the results, one would need to collect 5 times the amount suggested.
If this doesn't address your question, please re-state it. You have one follow-up remaining. EWH
