[Question #12837] Anxious HIV / STI Scare

Hello doctor,
Unfortunately, my anxiety is getting the better of me again, which is why I have to ask a question here again after some time.
Last time it was an erotic massage with frottage etc. and I was still in a relationship at the time. They were able to take away my fear.
Now I'm single and spontaneously went to a brothel after a party on Friday night. It's not the most expensive place, but the woman was young and well-groomed (I think from Romania). The room was bright and I couldn't see anything conspicuous about her.
There was protected oral sex with me (2 minutes) and then maybe 2 minutes of protected vaginal intercourse with the same condom - only doggy style and all very slowly. Since I didn't get 100% hard, the whole thing ended with a handjob without a condom. All in all, it was maybe 5-10 minutes. The condom was intact.
After that she handed me a wet paper to clean myself. 5 minutes later at home I disinficted the whole area and went to bed.
I now thought that my worries last time with the massage were caused by feelings of guilt. But now they're back (especially about HIV), and I've read a lot of posts here saying that there was practically no risk.

Welcome back to the Forum. Thanks for your continued confidence in our service. I'll be glad to comment and hope that the reassurance that I am about to provide will be helpful to you.
The exposure you describe was virtually no risk. I would have no concerns and not even feel a need for testing at this time. let me tell you why I say this:
1. In Germany most brothels are licensed and as part of the licensing procedure their workers must be tested regularly.
2. Most commercial sex workers do not have STIs. As a generalization, not only are they tested regularly but they tend to take appropriate precautions (such as condom use)
3. Condoms, as long as they do not break (this happens about 1% of the time) and are used throughout the encounter, reduce any risk for STI, even if your partner did have an STI, to close to zero.
4. That you shaved earlier in the day in no way changes the virtually no risk nature of your encounter.
I see no reason for doing something that is natural. Please don't worry. EWH

Thank you very much for your quickly reply.
I would also assume that the Handjob afterwards did not increase the risk? She took the condom off und maybe had some stuff on her hand from that, but that’s definitely a big „what if“..

Correct. There is absolutely no risk from receipt of masturbation, even if some of her secretions were on her hands. Still no risk whatsoever. EWH---
