[Question #12859] Brief oral
|
Hello. 50 hours ago I had an encounter with a male. Being curious I allowed him to gave me a handjob and he licked around my penis. My Penis briefly entered his mouth for approx 2 to 5 seconds before I said no
Being nervous about cly/gon I scheduled a test for Monday. Additionally doxypep was prescribed and I plan on taking that roughly 58 hours post exposure
He was able to provide me with a neg hiv test and gon/cly test from a week prior but the gon/cly was urinalysis not throat swab
I have had no symptoms to speak of as of yet
I was curious your thoughts on risk as I have a regular partner
Also will the doxy throw off my test on Monday, if so how long before I test
If I do take the doxypep and I was infected when can I return to normal sex?
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions and your implied confidence in our service. I'll be glad to comment. This was a virtually no risk event.
No STIs are transmitted through masturbation or from having someone lick around your penis. The brevity of the time your penis was in your mouth was close to no risk as well. Doxy-Pep as an added step will further reduce any theoretical risk (of which there is none) for chlamydia or syphilis to virtually zero. I see no reason for concern and no reason for testing. If you chose to test. I anticipate that the tests will be negative, providing further evidence that no infection is present.
I would not be concerned that you might have something from this encounter that you could transmit to a partner and in your situation, I would not feel the need to abstain from unprotected sex. EWH

I appreciate the reassurance
If you have a moment could you explain why doxy is effective up to 72 hours and how effective is it?
How contagious or how much time is needed for oral gon/some questions have similar brief oral explanations and testing is still warranted
Thanks for your time

Doxy PEP is most effective the sooner after an exposure it is taken but as a generalization, soon after infection, in those first hours, the bacteria prevented by doxy-PEP are more vulnerable to the effect of antibiotics.
I do not understand the second portion of your question. You can try again in your final follow-up question if you remain worried. EWH

Sorry about that.
I’ll keep it short and again thank you for your time
In short
No risk with the oral I described
No need to test
In the future if doxypep is taken will it change how long after exposure you should test?
Thank you

There are no good data on how long after doxy-pep to wait before testing. Doxycycline stays in the body for a day or two after a single dose. Further when to test depends on what your testing for. In the absence of symptoms, waiting a week to test for gonorrhea is probably sufficient. EWH---
