[Question #12872] Trying to Move On
|
One month ago I met a girl from a dating site. We went to her apt after diner. She gave me oral with a condom. We also kissed. I had a raw canker sore in my mouth at the time. I also fingered her with a cuticle issue. No vagianal or anal sex!
I asked her to get tested. She got an alere determine several weeks after our hookup. It was negative. I asked her about her past and she said she hadn’t been with anyone in months.
The reason I am here is I notice maybe one lymph node bump and my legs ache. One hurts more than the other. It’s been going on for over a week. Today i went to the health department and had a rapid alere determine. It was negative (29 days post risk)
1. Was I at risk?
2. Should her results mean I am ok?
3. Does it sound like Ars (why or why not) and did my rapid test prove it’s not?
4. Are condoms 100% protective?
5.Can i put this to bed and sleep with my wife?
As I mentioned my symptoms scared me so I tested about two hours ago.

6. Would the body aches in ARS be more generalized than just my legs.
I also wanted to mention I sucked her breasts.

Doctor,
I should have mentioned my symptoms started 23 days after this happened .

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions and your implied confidence in our service. I'll be glad to comment. The encounter you describe did not put you at risk for HIV. Your encounter was condom protected but, even more important is the fact that there are NO proven cases of HIV acquired from receipt of oral sex, as well as the fact that her recent negative test makes it impossible that she could have transmitted HIV to you (If she had HIV which could be transmitted. Similarly that a canker sore and an irritated nail cuticle in to way changes my assessment. Her test several weeks would have been positive). The symptoms you describe are non-specific and do not suggest HIV.
In response to your specific questions:
1. Was I at risk?
No for several of the reasons I mentioned above.
2. Should her results mean I am ok?
Yes- her negative test means she could not have transmitted HIV to you.
3. Does it sound like Ars (why or why not) and did my rapid test prove it’s not?
Tests are always positive in persons experiencing the ARS. If your symptoms were due to HIV, your tests would have been positive. Swelling of a single lymph node suggests inflammation in the region served by a lymph node but does not suggest the ARS in which lymph node swelling is widespread. It sounds like you may have some sort of leg issue going on which is causing both your muscle aches and lymph node swelling.
4. Are condoms 100% protective?
no but they are close. When combined with al else that I said above you were not at risk.
5.Can i put this to bed and sleep with my wife?
Yes.
6. Would the body aches in ARS be more generalized than just my legs.
Yes
I hope this information is helpful. EWH

Dr. Hook-
I was so nervous typing I typed my legs,,,, I meant my arms ache not my legs. Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully this makes no difference and it won’t count for one of my follow-ups .

I should have mentioned the node of possible concern is in my neck. Hopefully that doesn’t make a difference either. I’ll save my follow-ups unless you think it’s important to comment.
Thank you!!

Thank you for the additional information however, this does not change my assessment. You did not get HIV from the no risk encounter. I should also add that many of these questions are quite similar to questions that have been asked and answered in the past. As a result, the answers are the same. I think you were worrying entirely too much. This is not HIV. EWH.---

Hi Doctor Hook,
Thanks for your detailed responses!!!
I thought I would mention I am a mid aged male and she is as well.
1. Does the fact that I meant my arms (not my legs) are slightly sore change anything?
2. Does the fact that the gland I said might be swollen is in my jawline mean anything?
3. Does the fact that my hands have nicks from masonry work and allowing my pup to bite them when we roughhouse, change my fingering risk?
4. Does the fact that the canker sore or regular sore was raw from me picking change anything with regards to kissing?
5. Considering the details provided can I stop testing after today’s rapid negative duo test (29 or 30 days post risk)?
6. Do you suggest just moving on without worry?
Thank you for your insight.

As you know, we provide up to 3 responses to each client's questions. These will be my final responses and then the thread will be closed. It's disappointing that you are unable to accept the no risk nature of your encounter, the fact that it has been proven that your partner did not have HIV and your negative test results. This patter resembles your difficulty in accepting that you did not get HIV in the exchanges you has with us two years ago. You should consider why. You apparently have a flu-like illness. These sorts of symptoms can be caused by many different processes of which HIV is one of the rarer causes. Other common causes of symptoms such as yours include COVID, influenza and the numerous other viral syndromes that peole get from time to time. Further, your symptoms are not those of recently acquired HIV which typically include high fever, and severe sore throat as well as muscle and joint aches and, occasionally swollen lymph nodes.
