[Question #12876] Question #12778 Follow up confirmation

Hello again it’s me,

I just wanted to say thank you and a small donation for this organization.
At 49 days I have received a non-reactive RPR test for syphillis. I did take 10 days of Doxy for a bacterial infection that I believe has been cleared up. Some small questions I had and then I’m cleared from any questions.

1. Is it necessary for any additional testing at 12 weeks even if I tested negative multiple times.

2. Could the antibiotic suppress the infection but delay my body’s antibiotic response?

3. I’ve had small breakouts of folliculitis
and wasn’t sure if it had anything to do with this or it was just hormones.

Thanks again!

Welcome back, but I really don't think it was necessary and there isn't anything important I can add to my comments in your previous thread.

Having taken doxycycline for 10 days, there is zero chance you have syphilis now. Almost certainly you never did, but doxy is 100% curative for syphilis.

1. No additional testing is needed.

2. No, that doesn't happen. Doxycycline cures syphilis; it does not merely suppress it.

3. Folliculitis occurs in everyone from time to time and has nothing to do with syphilis or the other issues you have been concerned about.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything still isn't clear.

Thank you dr Handsfield.
I do have a few more questions that popped up.

I did notice a decent amount of red dots appear on my chest and back, very similar to red spots/lesions and was wondering if that had any correlation. I also tested HIV negative at 49 days. My acne medicine isn’t working for these areas so I wasn’t sure if the encounter had anything to do with this.

I’ve also had an uncomfortable feeling at the back of my throat for 8 weeks, all negative tests too.

Thanks again :)

There is no possibility the "red dots" are due to syphilis, HIV, or any other infection from this sexual exposure. Same for your throat discomfort. Don't worry about them -- or if they still concern you, discuss with your doctor.---

Can I give you my timeline for a final assessment:

Day 0: Exposure

Day 11: gonorrhea, and chlamydia swap (negative)

Day 26: RPR syphillis, HIV Test, SHC rapid syphillis test (negative)

Day 33: Started 10 days of Doxycycline 200mg, 450mg clindamycin 7 days,+ 4 days of prednisone after 8 days of Doxy (All for possible bacterial infections-negative tests)

Day 35: Rapid SHC syphillis finger prick test (negative)

Day 49: Second RPR test(rpr (dx) w/refl titer and t. pallidum ab. Ia)  and HIV Test 4th gen (negative)

Day 54: CBC, CMP, and lipid panel (everything came back in normal range)

1: have you ever seen a case where someone has tested negative at seven weeks and still ended up having syphilis?

2: I am having many small, broken capillaries around my body that I am noticing all of the sudden/skin sensitivity?

3: are there any documented cases of someone testing negative at six weeks while taking Doxy and still developing syphilis later?

Given the full breakdown timeline, Is it safe to resume all sexual activity with my partner at this time?

1. "Have you ever seen a case where someone has tested negative at seven weeks and still ended up having syphilis?" Did you think I might have changed my mind since my previous reply? This cannot happen and therefore I have never seen it.
2. "...many small broken capillaries...." You're looking too hard and too closely. Probably nothing abnormal is going on. In any case, this has nothing to do with HIV or any STI.
3. "are there any documented cases...?" No, never.

"Is it safe to resume all sexual activity with my partner at this time?" Yes.

That concludes this thread. Please do not be tempted to start a new one about this exposure and your symptoms. Your previous thread ended with this request:  "Please note the forum policy against repeated questions. This being your second, it should be your last about this exposure and your syphilis concerned." This one definitely is your last. Excessive anxiety driven questions are deleted without reply and without refund of the posting fee. Thank you for your understanding.

I do hope the three discussions have been helpful and that you now will be able to move on with no further worries.
