[Question #12877] Help

Hello,
Although I was honest with my partner about having herpes, I may have accidentally transmitted it to him during oral sex. I thought I was free from infection but discovered a mouth sore during the act. I am mortified. I thought I was being so careful. Can you give me any advice on how to best support my partner in the event he has contracted herpes, and can you please tell me anything about if and when pritelovir will become available to the general public? Is there any relief I can offer him in the possible promise of this hopefully effective drug that's on the horizon? Thank you for your time.

Sores inside the mouth are normally canker sores which are not caused by HSV.
So you've been diagnosed with oral herpes, is that right, in the form of cold sores?
We don't know when pritelovir will be available to the public but if he did acquire HSV from you, the usual antivirals will be very helpful for him. If he develops sores on his penis, he should have them swab tested and typed. I am assuming here that you believe him to be negative?

I was not diagnosed with oral herpes, so maybe he's in the clear. He hasn't broken out so far. May I ask, if the canker sores aren't hsv, then why did I have a genital herpes outbreak and a canker sore outbreak at the same time? I was on a ton of valtrex, but my mouth still broke out, btw. Does Valtrex not work for canker sores?

Valtrex doesn't work for canker sores because they aren't caused by herpes. Now to be accurate, I'm not positive that the sores in your mouth aren't HSV, but more often, herpes lesions appear on the outer edge of the lip or in the nose. I have had a patients who have had positive swab test from lesions inside the mouth, so it is not impossible, just a lot less more likely to be canker sores. Only a swab test could let you know if they are HSV or not. But the fact that your mouth lesions appear despite taking Valtrex suggests that they are canker sores, not HSV. Hope that rambling makes sense!
