[Question #12898] Hsv1

I hope this question isn’t an anxiety question so I hope you can answer it. My mother in law is getting over a cold sore. She is on day 12 of it. So it’s almost gone. My toddler was playing pretty wild and brushed her hands against her lips. About 3 mins later I helped her on the toilet. When she pulled up her undies her fingers brushed against her private area (she pulled up her undies and her hands slipped off her undies and her fingers kind of went into her inner labia area if that makes sense ) can the virus transfer in this kind of activity?

Maybe it wasn’t even 3 mins but it was at least a min or two. And she has a small scab left on her lip

It prob was at least 3 mins because I had to wash my hands and help her on the toilet and all that. And in between she hopped on the dinner chair to eat then decided she needed to potty

This does not present a risk for transmission. By day 12, I would think most if not all the virus is gone from the lesions with only skin healing left to take place. Even if she had had an active cold sore, the situation that you describe would be just about zero risk anyway. I'm sure your daughter touched other things during that three minute period as well

Thank you Terri.
Today I was brushing my teeth and my toddler ran in naked because she was in the middle of getting dressed. She wanted to me go with her so I hurried and finished brushing and walked behind her to go with her. While asking a bunch of liquid from my hand flung on me (I’m guessing it was water toothpaste and saliva mixed in) I’mworried some might have flung on her bottom area. She has a scabbed scratch on her upper butt cheek. Could this be a risk of transmission to her? I don’t have a current cold sore.

No, this is not a risk to her at all.
