[Question #12946] Meeting with escort - std risk

Dear Doctors I hope to find you well! I am writing you from northern Italy!

I am a man 40 y.o., healthy, married, no kids. Below the facts.

On April 22nd I had a meeting with a mid to high end agency escort in Milan, Estonian woman mid to late 20s. The girl had unprotected oral on me for 15/20 minutes, I Made cunnilingus and analingus to her for similar amount of time. Finally we had protected vaginal sex. We french Kissed.

On Saturday 26th i was out walking most of the day and the weather was unstable. Very hot, then cold and rain, I assume I took cold.

Sunday evening 27th I started feeling a sore throat. Fast forward to date I have been developing a cough too,  a little catarrh too rarely. Nothing visible in the throat by myself. No other symptoms at all on other parts of the body. No fever.

In the meantime i refrained from sex with my wife although I kissed her and some masturbation (only hands involved).

My dad is a doctor too, so I can easily ask him antibiotics (or a visit) for sore throat cough if it persists , however your opinion is very relevant before doing so. I would avoid telling him this part of the medical history if you agree. Otherwise if you believe symptoms are related to my escort encounter , I will take consequences and do what you suggest me.

Thank you for caring, and for the great service / help I am finding here.

Best,
Matteo

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services.

You describe a partner unlikely to have a transmissible STI, and oral sex should be viewed as safe sex. It's not entirely risk free, but the chance of infection is low for all STIs and zero for some, including HIV. And neither HIV nor any other STI causes the symptoms you have, especially coughing. As you understand intellectually if not emotionally, you caught a cold, nothing more. (The timing is consistent with catching a cold virus from your sex partner, but that doesn't make it an STD!) From a medical/risk perspective, see no need for testing; and if I were in your situation, I would continue unprotected sex with my wife without fear of infecting her (except with my cold!). However, reassurance alone often is a valid reason for testing. If you would be less worried, have a throat swab and urine tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia 4-5 days after the event; and you could have syphilis and HIV blood tests in a few weeks.

I see no need to ask your dad for antibiotics, which do not help viral sore throats. And I certainly would not advise antibiotics for the purpose of STI prevention after such an event.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Dear Doctor HHH,

My soar throath and cough are better. Further, the canker sore is smaller and less whitish, looking more like normal tinger tissue.

I am very thankful for your answer and for the service you provide. I am very much reassured and calm (feeling well too!).

All the best
