[Question #12975] Herpes Simplex Virus

|
3 days ago I had unprotected sex with another man. He informed me after that he was diagnosed with hsv2 6 yrs ago. He denied having a current outbreak. I did not see any lesions on my end. I am NOT experiencing any symptoms at this time. Would you recommend a IgG blood test for herpes? I test positive for HSV1 in the past but not HSV2. Will this accurately test if I have HSV2 now?

Can you elaborate on the kind of sexual contact that you had with this partner? Anal intercourse? Top? Bottom? Oral sex? Giving, receiving?
If you did get herpes, it is way too early for a blood test.

I penetrated him and provided him oral.

So both of these present some risk for HSV 2 acquisition, though the giving oral quite a bit less risk than penetrative anal sex without a condom.
You could get a herpes antibody IgG test as a baseline to see what your status was prior to this encounter - it is too soon now for antibody due to this encounter - but if positive, it could be a false positive or a real positive - you could share those results here with me if you like.
Since this was a one time encounter, the risk is lower but not zero. You need to observe for any sores or lesions both orally and genitally and if you develop any, please have them swab tested for herpes right away.
