Hello Doctors!

First of all I want to thank you for all your work, you are doing a good job giving knowledge on what can be stressful subjects.

My question would be: if someone has  an UTI and did a HIV combo test, would having an UTI  affect the reliability of the HIV combo(hiv 1 and 2 antibodies and p24 hiv 1 ) ?

Thanks for your time!

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment.  The presence of a UTI, or any other infection would have no effect on the accuracy of a 4th generation, combination HIV antigen/antibody test.  As long as you tested at the correct time, you can have confidence in your test results.  EWH---

Thanks for the quick answer!

Follow up:

1) when you say ‘’4th generation, combination HIV antigen/antibody test’’ you are talking about the HIV COMBO test correct ? The name of the test I did is COMBO HIV (hiv 1 and 2 antibodies and p24 hiv 1 )

2) when you say ‘’ As long as you tested at the correct time’’- when is the correct time ?

Thanks again, appreciate your input!
