Hi doctors! Great Forum!
I was wondering if you could help me.
I am married and recently I had a drunken affair with one of my teammates. (We play sports in a co ed team) She is from Brazil dont know if that plays a role and me from Germany. Long Story Short, about two weeks round about i recieved a blowjob unprotected and kissed intensley.
I have not showed symptoms, of discharge or blisters like the ones you see online. I did feel some irriattion after 7 days and it went away within 7 days. although no fever, flu or bliste rlike symptoms. My penis feels normal. Last time i got checked me and my wife tested negative for all stds (inclduing HSV1/2) and we both have no history of cold sores. My question is now. I am in like day 20. Should I test for Herpes or any other Stds? You think I caught something? Thanks!

If you tested negative previously for both viruses, it is unlikely that you acquired HSV1 asymptomatically from this encounter.  Receiving oral sex is not a risk for HSV 2
You could test for herpes, but be aware that it is too early for an accurate result AND there are false positives on these tests for both types.  I would recommend, if you tetst, that you use LabCorp - they have a better IgG now than Quest.

Hi Dr. Terri,
Thank you for your nice message. Here In Germany we not have Labcop or Quest. The test we did was from Synlab - IGG-AK. Let me just make sure if I understand.
  1. HSV 2 is not a risk correct?
  2. She did not have any sores at the time of the event, at least outside in the lips and it happened only once. You say that maybe I did not catch anything? I am also Circumsizse, dont know if it helps?
  3. I think This Friday it will be 21 days after our contact, do you really think I should test in maybe 6 or 8 weeks?
  4. Finally, you think I should test for anything else? Like HIV?
  5. Do you believe I can have unprotected sex with my wife or should wait?
Today I had a bad experience with a doctor in Germany, A private urologist that I had to pay cash.
I told him the situation and he told me I could catch like 10 different things from the oral sex. I said that I could do an urine test but he wanted to check my sperm? He wanted to charge me more, maybe thats why and thats when I found the website. anyways, thank you for your help.

  1. HSV 2 is not a risk correct?  Correct.  HSV 2 is very rarely oral, and when it is oral, it is very rarely active
  2. She did not have any sores at the time of the event, at least outside in the lips and it happened only once. You say that maybe I did not catch anything? I am also Circumsizse, dont know if it helps?  Yes, uncircumsized men are less likely to acquire STI's in general, I don't think we know that for sure with herpes.
  3. I think This Friday it will be 21 days after our contact, do you really think I should test in maybe 6 or 8 weeks?  I don't think you need to test at all, but if you do, I wouldn't test sooner than 8 weeks.  The risk here is HSV 1 and you could test for that at 8 weeks if you like
  4. Finally, you think I should test for anything else? Like HIV?  you could test for other STI's, other tests are more accurate than the herpes test
  5. Do you believe I can have unprotected sex with my wife or should wait? I can't really tell you what to do about your wife, but if you do the other tests and remain asymptomatic, I think you are likely OK but again, your decision.
