[Question #13014] Symptoms too soon
|
Hello Doctor,
I engaged in protected sexual intercourse with a female CSW on Saturday and received unprotected oral for about 1 minute. The next day I began to feel unwell, still feeling ill today. No fever or rash but generally achy body and sick, stiff neck. I should add that I was taking Truvada as Prep prior to the encounter. Could these be ARS? Should I just chalk this up to a coincidence? Would you recommend PEP?

Welcome back to the forum although I’m sorry you felt the need. The information to answer your questions has been provided in your previous three sets of questions over the past six months. As you’ve been told before, for symptoms to begin two days after an encounter is too soon to be HIV or for that matter any other STI. Further, as you’ve also been informed, no one has ever acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex and even if that were a possibility, if you were taking PrEP, there was virtually no risk of acquiring HIV in the unlikely circumstance that she had HIV.
I absolutely would NOT take PEP in this situation. There is no need for worry and no medical need for testing. EWH

Understood, thank you. So, in your opinion - my symptoms are just a coincidence? There is no STI that would make me feel ill within 48 hours? I don’t have any other symptoms outside of feeling dune on, ache in my groin and armpits, no fever but feeling warm.

Correct. Your symptoms do not suggest an STI. Their onset was too soon.
You have one follow-up remaining. The the thread will be closed. Further repetitive, anxiety driven questions may be deleted without a reply. EWH

To follow up,
How long would symptoms last if they were ars? Would a fever one night and then it clearing be long enough?
3-4 days after the encounter I came down with a fever at night, chills and a cough, however, I ended up testing positive for Covid that same day and prescribed Paxlovid.
Today is 8 days since the encounter. I now feel better except that my lymph nodes are still achy in the groin, armpits and a tender one under my jaw - should I be worried about these?
Safe to remove ars from my mind? Seems like I may have only caught covid from her.

This will be the final response as part of this thread. There should be no need for you to return with.
The symptoms of the ARS including fever typically last 3 to 4 days or more. You have an entirely logical alternative explanation for the symptoms that you have including your swollen nodes.- COVID. There is simply no reason whatsoever for you to continue to worry about the possibility of HIV.
You need to move on. This thread will be closed. As I’ve already said there should be no need for you to return to the forum. EWH.
