[Question #13048] Unprotected oral risk

Hello doc
A day ago I have been to a massage parlour. The therapist was an Asian and after the massage she offered me blowjob and in the heat of the moment we went ahead. The exposure was unprotected 3-5 minutes of kissing the penis shaft, head and testicles. I also think the penis was inside her mouth for 1-2 minutes but not very deep and i climaxed by handjob also just for your information my penis is circumcised. So doc my questions are
1.)should I be worried about hiv and stds from this exposure of unprotected oral sex?
2.) should I get tested, if I should what tests do you recommend and what should the window period be from the exposure?

Welcome back to the Forum. I would have thought that the answers to most of these questions would have been apparent from our interaction a month ago. The was a very, very low risk exposure. There is no appreciable risk for HIV and your risk for other STIs is very low as well. Remember- most commercial sex workers do not have STIs. including HIV, most single exposures do not result in infection, and receipt of oral sex is amongst the lowest risk of all penetrative sex acts. Thus:
1.)should I be worried about hiv and stds from this exposure of unprotected oral sex?
As I said above, there is no meaningful risk for HIV and your risk for other STIs is low. The STI most likely to occur from receipt of oral sex is gonorrhea and that is uncommon. I would estimate that there is a less than 1% chance that you have gonorrhea from the encounter you describe. The risk for other STIs is even lower.
2.) should I get tested, if I should what tests do you recommend and what should the window period be from the exposure?
Testing, as we have discussed before is a personal choice. Were I in your situation, I would not bother to test. Some of our clients choose to test for the reassurance that a negative test provides. If I were going to test for anything, I would get a urine test for gonorrhea 3-5 days after the exposure. At that time results will be conclusive.
I hope that this information is helpful. I would not be worried. EWH

Doctor as this is an unprotected oral sex don’t you think my risk for HIV or syphlis increases. The exposure was for 5 minutes she had the penis inside her mouth few times. I know the questions are repetitive doc it’s just that I am scared off. Thank you

My assessment stands. No one has ever acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex. you will not be the first. As for syphilis, this is statistically unlikely. Syphilis is relatively rare in women and your partner had no lesions. I would not be particularly worried about syphilis. If you wish to prove this to yourself, you will need to have a blood test for syphilis sometime more than 6 weeks after your exposure. If you do, I predict the test will show that you were not infected. EWH---
