[Question #13066] Question

I am 43 years old. I’ve followed you both since your medhelp days. I’ve always practiced safe sex in my life except with the woman I dated. The only times I did was when I was in long term relationships. I’ve been married twice. My last wife has hsv2. We were together for two years and after we divorced I did not have sex with anyone for 2 years. Well in those two years I had my first outbreak. I was depressed because I thought I got lucky and did not contract it. Well this was in 2022. In 2023 I decided to explore my bisexuality. I met a man who claimed he was clean. He did oral which I know is low risk. He rubbed his penis against my anus. This was one encounter only. He never went in but the next day the outside of my anus was sore and it made me wonder if he went in but we both were sober so I know I would have felt an erect penis go inside me. In 2024 I took an oraquick test and it was negative. But since then I got pancreatitis. Doctors should not find the reason why. I do not drink or smoke. They did blood test to find this out and I know that a CBC does not look for HIV. But I wonder if it could have been a cause of my pancreatitis. Would a CBC show any signs of HIV? I do get neck sweats sometimes at night. I know oraquick is not the most reliable test out there. I’ve had more HSV2 outbreaks lately (it is a stressful time in my life) and this time it has left scarring. Could it be untreated HIV or can I trust my oraquick results? The guy claimed he is clean but people do lie.

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your longstanding appreciation of our work; our "medhelp days" are more than a decade in the past.
I cannot judge or comment very much on the sexual experience you describe with another guy. You were there and I wasn't. And you don't say anything about his sexual lifestyle and likelihood he might be infected with HIV or other STD. However, assuming no penetration, your risk was very low.
Sorry about your pancreatitis, but that affliction is entirely unrelated to sexuality, STDs or HIV -- regardless of whether no underlying cause was identified. CBC almost never gives clues about HIV infection. Night sweats fit with pancreatitis and a hundred other conditions more common than HIV.
Your negative oraquick test is proof that your pancreatitis and any other symptoms are not due to HIV -- and based on your description of the sexual exposure, you were not at risk for HIV anyway. And although true that "people do lie", most people are truthful when asked directly about HIV status after a sexual experience.
You should tell the doctors treating your pancreatitis about your possible sexual risks and concerns for HIV. I am confident they will a) request a lab based HIV test; b) reassure you that your pancreatitis has nothing to do with HIV; c) and will agree with my 100% confidence the lab-based HIV test will be negative and that you don't have HIV.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Hey doctor. My pancreatitis was 14 months ago and thankfully it hasn’t comeback. The man in question is a manager at an insurance place in his late 50’s caucasian. That’s the only man I’ve ever fooled around with. and that incident was almost 3 years ago. Other than that my sexual lifestyle is with women and I always use condoms. Thank you for your reply and even though we have good information online, we unfortunately still have misinformation online. Almost any ailment you google it’s either cancer or hiv

I should have responded to this comment much sooner. Apologies.
Be careful about googling symptoms to ask about causes. First, many or most sites do not state the most common causes, but the most dangerous or frightening. Thus "cough" may come up with lung cancer and tuberculosis without saying that common colds and other minor viruses are the main causes. And generally avoid sites run by and for people with the problem (or worried about the problem) on your mind -- like Reddit, for example. You're less likely to be misled by those run by professional organizations or at least professionally moderated.
