[Question #13095] False Negative HIV test scare

I am a 39 yr old Indian male residing in Australia. In Feb 2023, I had a b2b massage with a Indian Female  while I was in a trip to India in the city of Cochin. During the session, the masseuse got on top of me and started rubbing her clitoris against my penis(foreskin retracted) . This lasted for around 10 seconds as she stopped as soon I asked her to ensure that no penetration happens. She then gave me a handjob while I rubbed my fingers on her clitoris. The clitoris was a bit dry and she also told me that fingering is not permitted.  Reading other questions in the forum, I understand that the rubbing of genitals that happened to me is called frottage. I did not think much about this incident  but after 2 weeks I developed a fever while back in australia. Panic striken, I went to the GP and got a script for a STI screening. I gave for the lab test in Melbourne on the 24th day after the incident. The result came back non reactive. I am not sure of the generation of the test but presume Australia has been using 4th gen tests for a long time. For further confirmation the GP gave me another script which I did on the 88th day after the incident. This also came as non reactive.I was relieved by the negative results and moved on and never had a risky encounter since. However, recently I got a sore throat and started getting itching on tongue. Went back to the same GP and it looked like I have black hairy tongue. I discussed my worry of this being a rare symptom of hiv and the GP gave me another script for STI screening.

Posting my questions as a reply due to word limit

1. Is there any chance of HIV infection from the particular incident I had?(sorry I know this has been answered but asking for peace of mind)
2. Was the test done after my fever at 24 days reliable?
3. Is there any chance that the test done at 88 days could have been false negative?
4. Should I go ahead and do the STI screening now since I never had any other risky encounters after the last test.
Thank you for the reply in advance

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your confidence in our service.  I'll be glad to comment, going straight to your questions.

1. Is there any chance of HIV infection from the particular incident I had?(sorry I know this has been answered but asking for peace of mind)
This was a no risk encounter.  It is unlikely that your partner had any STI, including HIV and the activities you engaged in are not associated in any way with risk for STI.

2. Was the test done after my fever at 24 days reliable?
24 day testing would detect the majority of recent HIV infections but not all.  STI testing at that time for the most common STIs would be reliable.

3. Is there any chance that the test done at 88 days could have been false negative?
No, particularly when considering in the context of the no risk nature of your encounter.  Testing any time more than 6 weeks after an exposure is conclusive.

4. Should I go ahead and do the STI screening now since I never had any other risky encounters after the last test.
I really see no medical or scientific reason for further testing,  If you choose to test for reassurance, I am confident that the results will show that you were not infected.

I hope this information is helpful.  Please don't worry.  EWH
