[Question #13096] Escort and testing HIV/Syphilis/Hep

Hello and thank you for answering my question. Almost three months from the posting of this I received an unprotected blow job from an escort. Should I be concerned at all about catching an STD like HIV, Syphilis, or HEP A B or C? I've had no symptoms. I'm not concerned about the other more common stds because I feel like those symptoms would have been noticed as they (as I understand it) show symptoms early and are treatable.
I'm looking to start a new relationship with someone and I don't want to put them at risk.
Thank you.

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. The encounter you describe was close to no risk. Most escorts do not have STIs, including HIV, most single encounters do not result in infection even when partners are infected, and among penetrative sex acts, receipt of oral sex is particularly low risk. There are no cases of HIV or hepatitis associated with receipt of oral sex. Similarly syphilis is uncommon and if you have not developed genital lesions, the likelihood is lower still. The most common STI associated with receipt of oral sex is gonorrhea and that is both relatively uncommon and when present becomes symptomatic in over 90% of cases within 3-5 days of exposure. Were I in your situation, I would not be worried at all about having acquired an STI. Having said that, I should acknowledge that some of our clients choose to test in similar ow risk situations for the comfort that a negative test provides, If you choose to test, at this time results for any and all STIs will be conclusive and the most important test to have would be a urine test for gonorrhea.
I hope this information and perspective is helpful. EWH

Thank you for your quick reply. Could you describe a syphillis sore to me? I actually just started forming what appears to be a red bump approx a half a centimeter in diameter and is red. It's on my waist line approx where the top of my Jean picket rest (aprrox 2 oclock position). It just formed 2 days ago. Is this too long after an exposure event to be syphillis? If it was syphillis how long would it stick around?

Typically a syphilitic chancre is painless, 1-2 cm in diameter and over two days would have evolved to become a clean based ulcer. Further, the location you describe would be an unusual location.
My recommendation is unchanged.
