[Question #13130] Quick Oral Sex Question

Hello. I realized we had already discussed a few months ago the risks for receiving oral sex and about my concern about Hsv1 and syphilis from receiving oral sex. Back in early March not too long after I had sent my last question here, I did masturbate pretty hard twice. One time at night with no lotion and then early that morning with lotion. And I had realized the next morning a smallish, circular open skin wound on my penis that was swollen a little. The swelling did go down and It did hurt a little bit when I touched it and stretched the skin around a little Bit.

Since then I haven’t been able to truly come to conclusion if that was really. from Hard masturbation or if it was a Spyillis sore. I know you said that a Sphyllis canker is painless. This open wound was not painless. And it healed fully in 7-8 days. Does that for sure sound like from rough masturbation? I’m just very curious. Sorry for the extra info. Thanks

Welcome back. However, this is essentially the same story as for your question answered by Terri three months ago. I suggest you re-read that discussion.

Overall, herpes is the most common cause of genital ulcers (sores), especially when the same thing happens repeatedly. As Terri probably said last time (I didn't read that thread in detail), your response this time should have been to see a doctor or clinic immediately for HSV testing of the lesion within a few days of onset, preferably within 2-3 days. If and when it happens again, that is what you should do. In the meantime, as Terri definitely recommended, you consider following her advice about arranging for an HSV Western blot test -- the ultimate gold standard for HSV blood tests. This and the other episode don't sound typical for herpes, so my guess is that either a swab test early during an outbreak or a WB blood test will be negative. But until these are done, you'll never know for sure whether or not you have genital herpes. Anyway, as discuss in other forum questions you have posted, hand-genital contact simply is not a risk for either herpes or syphilis. And your description this time and previously do not fit at all with syphilis. I'm also inclined to believe "rough masturbation" isn't a likely cause either. However, you were there and I wasn't -- so I cannot say for sure whether the is a possibility.

This is your tenth forum question over the past year -- suggesting you are hyper-anxious about STIs in general and maybe herpes and syphilis in particular. Let's make this your last unless and until you have had the HSV tests suggested. And of course you could always have a syphilis blood test for the reassurance the negative result might give you.

I agree with Dr. Handsfield's post.  Just a couple of additional thoughts here.
If you ever do want to do the western blot blood antibody test, you should wait 12 weeks from any concerning sexual encounter to do it.  Remember that about half the US adults are infected with HSV 1, so even if you do the blot and find out you are positive, this doesn't mean you have genital HSV 1 infection. It could be oral, even if you've never had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose.
If you decide that you do want to do the blot, you can reach out to me at westoverheights.com and we can work on it together.  Just remember the limitations of the test in terms of location.
