[Question #13137] Test accuracy

Hello
I had a vaginal intercourse without a condom on May 30-31 (early morning), without ejaculation, with a man with whom we had been together for the last 2 months.
What he had told me was that he had a 1-year relationship between the end of 2023 and the end of 2024, then a 4-month relationship until March 2025, and that during this time his girlfriend, not him, had been tested for HIV and was fine.
He told me that he had had an hiv test a year ago, that is, early 2024, and it was okay, and the only contact he had without a condom this year was with me, the one I am describing, and with the girl he had been with for 4 months and who herself was tested.
I don't know anything else.
I would like to ask you about the test I did today and I'm expecting results this afternoon, since it's negative, what are the validity rates for this intercourse?
It's not a molecular test, it's a normal one.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services.
You describe a partner who is extremely unlikely to have HIV -- not only because of his test only a year ago, but a lifestyle that is low risk. However, that depends on where you are -- your Cyrillic name indicates middle or Eastern Europe -- can you say the country? But even in places like Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan etc, the chance your past partner(s) had HIV probably is low.
Therefore, you can expect a negative result from your HIV test. How valid that result will be depends on the particular test you had. "Not molecular" suggests it either an antibody test or a combination antigen-antibody (AgAb test, i.e. "4th generation"). These tests are 77-80% reliable when done 2 weeks after exposure. Therefore, you probably will want to test again -- e.g. 6 weeks after exposure with an AgAb test.
I will be happy to comment further if you would like to let me know your current test type and the result, where you are, etc. In the meantime, I hope these comments are helpful.

Apologies for this delayed reply. I'm glad to hear your test result was negative. I am not very familiar with HIV data in Greece, but probably it is similar as in most of Western Europe. If so, it is very unlikely your partner is infected. Your negative result is highly reassuring, but for 100% proof you should have another 4th generation blood test 6 weeks after the sexual contact. Or speak with your partner and ask him to be tested again. If negative now, you'll know right away you could not have been infected.---
