[Question #13184] Gonnorhea test

Hi after unprotected oral sex , I decided to take a bacterial test at home. I used the 8 in 1 test kit from the brand  get tested. It was a urine test . I did the test waited 15 mins then the result came back as a weak positive.  Inwoukdnsay it was just darker than the inconclusive shade. So naturally I was concerned l. I then decided to take a home swab test of the uretha.  Which I did diligently and this returned bi positive test line and said i was negative for gonnorhea.

Can you advise on whether the urine tests are accurate and how often false positives occur. This was 5 days after exposure.

Many thanks

I'm not sure if it is relevant but I had a catheter previously after a bladder/bowel resection.

Welcome back to the Forum.  Please check your wording.  Perhaps you dictated your question.  The 2nd word in the 4th sentence is confusing.

I would be skeptical of the weak positive result you got.  The rapid test you used tested for things that are not STIs ( Ureaplasma for instance) and is subject to misinterpretation.  Yesterday you did not mention any symptoms and well over 90% of Gonorrhea is associated with obvious penile discharge.  Further, while I have no experience with the test you mention, 15 minute rapid tests may provide incorrect results.  I suggest you seek evaluation by a trained clinician who can perform more reliable tests for Gonorrhea.  EWH

Thank you Dr, it will he 6 days now since exposure.

I have no symptoms. I immediately tool another test (I thinkmot eas abbot lab) which used a swab of my urethay and that returned a negative result. Is the strength of th3 line indicative of a more positive result therefore a weak.line is borderline? It seemed far too interpretable and was very borderline. Which now has me extremel3y worried I got gonnorhea. How easy is gonnorea contracted orally ? Amd does it clear on its own or always need antibiotics u

Sigh.   Did you read my reply?.  You didn’t check your wording and ignored that I said these tests can be misinterpreted, particularly borderline results.  That is why I suggested you seek evaluation a clinician.

Gonorrhea can be acquired from receipt of oral sex.

If present, although some gonorrhea may go away over time, it is best to be sure that you are infected ( I suspect not) and if you are, get treated.

You have one follow up remaining.  After that further repetitive questions which suggest you have ignored or not read my replies may be deleted without a response and without return of your fee.  EWH

Apologies, I misunderstood
Would you say that the swab test I did is different technique and more reliable ? The company selling the urine tests seems legitimate. Am incorrect in thinking that it's around 5 percent likely gonorea would be transmitted mouth to Penis? In the presence of an infection?
Ihow prevanll3nt is oral.gonorrea in csw and when you say 95 percent people get symptoms. Are they really obvious and what would be a factor in not getting symptoms
 Thanks once again

For clarity , the 8 in 1 test was 8 test strips. That you simultaneously put in urine to get a reading
 Would.thsy change your opinion?

More repetition.  As I said, I am not familiar with this company but I remain skeptical of the "weak positive" result you report.  As I also said, rapid tests such as these are subject to misinterpretation.

As I also said in my initial response "well over 90% of Gonorrhea is associated with obvious penile discharge".  Why would you repeat the question?

I continue to doubt your test result and continue to recommend that you see a trained clinician for better testing.

This completes this thread and as I warned, any further repetitive, anxiety-driven questions may be closed without a response.  EWH
