Good evening Dr,
Quick question, can a flu vaccine alter a HIV test result? Today I went to my doctor for my 6 month follow up. He gave me the flu vaccine and also took blood from me for the 4th Gen HIV test. I asked him if my results would be affected and he said no. Would you agree? Thanks for your response. Appreciate all that you do.

Your doctor is entirely correct. No vaccines- flu, hepatitis B, HPV, etc. cause false positive HIV tests or impair the accuracy of the tests. Your results will be accurate. EWH

The only reason I ask DR is I seen some articles online stating that the antibodies for the Flu Vaccine can cause false or intermediate results on a HIV test. Since I got the shot and had blood drawn, I thought that could effect the results.

There are many incorrect statements which are all too easily found on the internet. There are no good scientific studies which suggest that receipt of vaccines will lead to incorrect results on and HIV test. EWH
