[Question #13222] Follow up to question #13213

Hi Terri,
I am trying really hard to make myself accept that I am negative and don’t have HSV1, but the area on my foot is nagging at me and I hope it’s ok to ask this question?

*If someone has a new genital HSV1 infection, would a recurrence on the foot within a month to month and a half afterwards be unlikely?

I also want to add that my partner has not given me oral sex since my negative WB, but we do have protected and unprotected sex depending on when I’m ovulating. I forgot to tell you that in my last post and figured it was an important piece of information.

If this questions breaks the forum rules, I apologize and fully accept that it may not be able to be answered. I don’t want to take advantage of this service you all provide. Thank you for any additional help you can offer.

well, if it is new, then it isn't a recurrence - do you see what I mean?  If you are asking if you acquired HSV 1 6 weeks ago, and now have a lesion on your foot, could that be a recurrence?  And the answer would be yes, someone could have a recurrence of a lesion on their foot, but I've only seen HSV lesions on the foot less than a handful of times.
If your partner has not given you oral sex since your negative western blot, then HSV 1 is so unlikely as it is very rarely transmitted via intercourse, but he has it orally right, not genitally?  So he wouldnh't be able to transmit it genitally if he only has it orally.

In your opinion when someone has a first recurrence, would they also be expected to have a positive IGG as well? Assuming that infection was not missed by the test of course.

What do outbreaks on the foot look like in your experience?

I do think he only has it orally for the most part, his grandmother babysat him often when he was younger and he asked her about it because he never recalled cold sores as a child, but she did say she remembered him getting them because she kissed him not thinking about it being transmitted. He has had 3 of what looks to be maybe cold sores, 1 was a sore that looked crusty and yellow, another was what looked like blisters on the lip but never busted, and then he had a blister that busted the next day and left a small sore, but these were right on the center of his lip in the same place every single time not on the edge where they commonly occur.  I unfortunately just have severe anxiety about it that my mind often tries to go to thinking that maybe his grandmother wasn’t correct and saw something that might have looked like a cold sores, and he acquired both oral and genital from a past relationship. Does what I described sound like cold sores or not based on the location on the lips?

I was also outside for the fireworks in flip flops before this. We had chairs in the grass and I didn’t use bug spray, so I’m thinking this probably leans even more to it being a bug bite. Are you in agreeance?

I have tried so hard to fight this anxiety on my own, but I think I am going to look into CBT because this is no way to live. I am going to do my best to accept the fact that you think it’s not herpes  along with my negative test and tell myself that I don’t have herpes.

I do think it is not herpes.  These fears can be debilitating, and I think CBT for this situation is the perfect thing to do.
I agree that this is most likely a simple bug bite.  Please try to accept his grandmother's history on this one.

No question, but since this is still open just wanted to tell you thank you so much for what you do. This has helped to make me feel better and knowing you think CBT is a good idea makes me feel even more inclined to go forward with it!

I’m sorry Terri would you mind clarifying one thing? I know you think it’s not herpes on my foot due to agreeing that it’s a bug bite. But in the first sentence of your post, was that just reiterating that you don’t think what’s on my foot is herpes or what I think have been cold sores on my husband’s lip is not herpes? Sorry just wasn’t very clear on that one. Otherwise, no other questions and what I say above still stands!

I don't think the thing on your foot is HSV.
