[Question #13258] HPV

I noticed a single lesion in my pubic area on the right side, kind of hidden in the skin folds between my right leg and pubic area. I got it looked at by doctors online who said mole and skin tag. 2 doctors in-person said wart, 2 said not a wart. Derm said a wart but I'm waiting for my biopsy result (another 5 weeks as it's been 1 week since I visited the derm). I don't know how long the lesion has been there as I'm very hairy down there. My last sexual encounter was protected back in Feb. I noticed the lesion in March. It didn't grow. It didn't multiply. It had a hair sticking out like it looked like an ingrown hair then 48 hours later, it started looking like a papilloma. I'm 110% sure it's a wart. Some doctors say HPV is permanent. Some say it's not. My derm said it's not. I understand that my immune system can clear HPV within 2 years but I'm just so confused. I know the Doorbar study shows residual HPV DNA but was that for all cases or just some or many? My only hope is that there's a chance that it can be truly eradicated in some. Please help me.

I've also asked the women I've recently been sexually active with about their status. They all were either vaccinated or said they tested negative before and/or after our encounter. They could be lying, of course. I just don't know.

Welcome to our forum. Thanks for your questions. I’ll be glad to provide some perspective. I think you are getting ahead of yourself. You have had the lesion you describe for 5 months and it has been biopsied - you will have a definitive answer shortly. Until then, “what if” questions serve no purpose. The lesion you describe is in an unusual location for a wart and a common location for a skin tag or mole. Further, unlike the generalists who saw you, a trained specialist, the dermatologist, states he/she does not think the lesion is a wart. Finally, your partners state they are vaccinated against HPV making it unlikely that your lesion was a wart acquired from one of them. My advice is to wait for your biopsy results. In addition, I strongly suggest that you call the dermatologist’s office in inquire when the biopsy results will be available. It should not take more than a week for results or at least preliminary results to be available.
If the biopsy shows that the lesion is a wart, I will be happy to answer questions about HPV at that time. EWH

I'd like to clarify, the derm said it looks like a wart. I really hope it's not. Praying for the best with the biopsy. I'm in Canada so it's another 5 week wait, unfortunately.

I repeat, even in Canada, results should not take 5 weeks. An appointment may take longer but results should be available sooner. You should call an inquire.

Thoughts on the derm saying it's a wart even though my case sounds atypical?

Final response. Find out if it is a wart. If he was sure, why do a biopsy? If it is, you may have been infected for far longer than you know.
I think you are making a bigger deal out of this than it warrants. To understand why I say this, please review some of the hundreds of discussions of HPV, it’s management, and it’s significance.
End of thread which will be closed shortly. There should be no reason to return until you have your biopsy results and have reviewed other discussions on the topic found here on the Forum. EWH

I suggested the biopsy because I wanted certainty. I doubt I would've had it for a long time because I would've passed it on to sexual partners in the past who weren't vaccinated. Anyway, I'll wait for the biopsy results then pay for another round of questions. I've read most of the HPV threads in this forum... It seems that HPV can be permanent but that's not always the case... I just need hope.
