[Question #13267] Follow Up Testing

Hi Dr, I took the syphilis test at 6 weeks 42.5 days) after exposure like you said to. It came back non reactive. I also took a combo 4th gen HIV test. (42.5 days) after the exposure. Also non reactive.
1. Do I need to take a 4th Gen Duo after 45 days to be conclusive like CDC says? Or does my combination of 2 HIV RNA test and this 4th gen duo test at day 42/43day count as conclusive. The reason I ask is because CDC doesn’t say anything about RNA being conclusive. And Because I also see Dr. Hook, say RNA at 11 days and more is “virtually” conclusive, So does virtually mean almost conclusive? or was that his previous information on the RNA test?
2. Based solely on my test results for HIV, is it impossible that I have HIV?
3. Do I need any more follow up test? Now that my syphilis test is negative and all the HIV test I’ve taken are negative?

I would like to add that the reason I keep asking about HIV is all the information I read online made my anxiety worse when it contradicts. And my anxiety thinks of the worse possible case scenario. I guess I just need reassurance that It is impossible that I have HIV and that I am clear and can move on and don’t need to keep spending money on test.

Welcome back to the /forum although I'm sorry you felt the needs. Your follow on to your original question today however explains why you are repeating your questions- you are being mislead by the internet. The internet is a terrible place to seek health information. It tends to be inaccurate and misleading. Please stay off the internet.

In response to your follow-up questions which are largely repetitive, I'll provide brief answers;
Dr. Handsfield stated your results were conclusive. I agree. Please don't get hung up and try to read between the lines for messages that are not there. You do not have HIV. No further testing is needed.
2. Based solely on my test results for HIV, is it impossible that I have HIV?
Repetitive. Yes.!
3. Do I need any more follow up test? Now that my syphilis test is negative and all the HIV test I’ve taken are negative?
Believe your results. There is no need for further testing
