[Question #13346] Syphilis - transmission without chancre
3 days ago
|
I have recently been unexpectedly diagnosed with Syphlilis though getting some blood tests required for a dental procedure. My last full check was in May 2024, and were negative. I have no symptoms normally associated with his disease (chancre or rash). the PRP was marked 1:512. The Pathologists have classed it as "consistent with early syphilis".
My question is - can Syphilis be transmitted to partners without these 2 symptoms? If s, what would be % of doing so?
Thank you very much, I appreciate your response.

Welcome back to the Forum. Sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. Your negative test in May 2024 and the strength of the RPR titer suggest that you acquired your infection in the past year or so. As a result sexual partners in the interval since your infection have been exposed to your infection. I trust that you have been treated. The absence of symptoms does not mean that there were not signs of infection in the past that were not noticed or attributed to some other cause.
Your sexual partners should be tested and recent (within the past 3 months at least) should be treated with preventative treatment. The risk of your infection being transmitted to them is estimated to be about 33% per exposure.
I hope this information is helpful. if any part of my message is unclear, please use your up to 2 follow ups for clarification. EWH
