[Question #13354] protected oral june 2025

Hello, Doctor!

Sorry for any typos, I am translating my text because English is not my first language (french is my 1st language)

Two months ago, I went for a massage. The masseuse offered me oral sex. I foolishly accepted, but only with a condom. She blew air on my penis and put the condom on before performing oral sex. The oral sex was 100% protected. There was no contact between her mouth and my penis because the condom covered it completely.

Being a hypochondriac, I examined myself too much, looking for symptoms, and spent a lot of time on the internet. Unfortunately, the information on STI risks is contradictory from one site to another.

I saw my doctor last week, who told me that since I had used a condom, I had not taken any risks and could resume unprotected sex with my wife (something I had been avoiding since then). He told me that I did not need to be tested. Do you agree with what my doctor told me?

However, he gave me a 7-day course of doxycycline to take twice a day (I think it was more to reassure me because I was panicking).

I took it for 5 full days despite the stomach burning. Last night, I forgot the first dose of the 6th day. I took the next dose this morning. Could forgetting a dose of doxycycline cause a problem?

Thank you in advance and have a good day!

I forgot to mention that, since I had some doxycycline at home that I had already taken for acne last year, I took 200 mg one hour after the massage/blowjob because I panicked at the idea of having an STI (I read Dr. Handsfield's responses afterwards, which said it was a bad idea)

Welcome to the Forum.  Your English is clear.  I'll do my best to help. From the perspective of reducing your risk for ATI, including HIV you did everything right.  You sex was condom protected.  On the other hand, your anxiety had led you to do everything wrong in terms of putting this encounter behind you and moving forward.  The internet is often misleading and there is no good way to tell which statements are correct and which are no; repeated self-examination is a bad idea which leads to misidentifying previously unnoticed sensations and skin changes as abnormal.

I agree entirely with your doctor.  The event you describe did not put you at risk for any STI.  The doxycycline you took was unnecessary but would have prevented chlamydia, syphilis and about half of gonorrhea in the event you were exposed (there is no reason to think you were exposed).  Having missed a dose would not be problematic if you needed the medication.

You need to move on. There is no reason for concern and no need whatsoever for testing of any sort.  EWH

Hello Doctor!

Thank you for your quick response. From what I understand, the Doxypep I took protected me from chlamydia, syphilis, and some gonorrhea.

The 7-day prescription of doxycycline that my doctor gave me last week (2 months after the event) was, as I understand it, unnecessary. I have two pills left to take. In your opinion, is it necessary for me to take them, or can I stop?

I'm glad to know that you agree with my doctor. My doctor didn't want me to get tested because, according to him, I hadn't taken any risks and he didn't see why I should spend money on unnecessary tests. Your professionnal opinion reassures me because my doctor is not an STI specialist but a general practitioner.

Thank you again for your excellent service, Dr. Hook!

There is no need to take the 2 remaining doxycycline pills.

Thank you, Doctor.

Given your expertise and your reassuring response, I will try to forget this incident and get on with my life (and resume unprotected sex with my wife).

I wanted to get an expert opinion in addition to that of my general practitioner, and I am glad I was able to write to you.

Thank you again for your time and advice.
