[Question #13370] Doubts about a test

Hello Doctors,

First of all thanks for your good work

The thing is, I went to a clinic in Europe that specializes in sexually transmitted infections to get tested. they took blood from my vein, and after 20-30 minutes they gave me a negative result for both antigen and antibody, and it says that the test is 99.9% effective. The point is, I saw that I had an immunochromatic test, and I've read that this is somewhat less sensitive than chemiluminescence. Is this true? The truth is that they seemed very professional at the clinic and told me that blood from a vein was better because they cleaned it and that way the result was more sensitive (or something like that...).

Now I wonder what the window period is for my test because I thought it was 98% conclusive at 28 days and practically conclusive at 6 weeks. Is that right? Or does it take longer because it is immunochromatic?

From what I've read, my experiences weren't very risky, basically a body-to-body erotic massage 32 days after the test, where there was brief penetration with the masseuse in a movement because we were so lubricated with nuru gel. We stopped immediately and masturbated each other to finish with the orgasm. (she told me she is fine). also before that at 21 days I had another similar massage body body but just rubbing and no penetration in this case

I met a girl and I want to be sure that Im fine

Best regards

Welcome back to our forum. Thanks for your continuing confidence in our service. I agree with you that the interaction you described was relatively low risk for HIV. In addition, however I would urge you to have complete confidence in the results of your immuno chromographic HIV test. These tests are just as reliable as other test formats. At 28 days test such as these Provide a result which is more than 98% conclusive. Of course, to be entirely conclusive a test should be repeated at six weeks however, I would have close to complete confidence in your test results to prove that you did not acquire HIV from the descriptive interaction you described.

The virtue of the immuno chromographic test is that they can provide results quickly, which is something that I know that you would appreciate. Please don’t worry. EWH.

Thank you doctor for sharing your knowledge and experience with me
I've called the clinic and they gave me the same answer than you,  the brand of the test is called abbot and they have professional work environments, and the blood was drawn directly from the vein, but I got scared because being quick, I thought the window period was longer, now I feel more at ease with also your advice
As a curiosity (I know there wasn’t much risk), could this test also detect a possible infection at 21 days? So a negative result is doubly reassuring
And I understand that a negative result at 32 or 35 days is practically conclusive, right? Or are there many cases where it gets detected later? I’m not sure why this happens at 6 weeks (I had a cold two weeks ago, but my immune system is good, I like to take care of myself
My final question (sorry but one can't always have a professional like you to ask) a negative at 28 days is the same that at 32 for example, or the % increases till 6 weeks?
Thanks again

A negative test is always good news.  The more time that has passed, the better.  At 21 days the test will detect some but not all recent infections.  At 28 days it would detect over 98% of infections and at 6 weeks results would be entirely conclusive.  EWH---

Thanks again doctor for your reply and knowledge
Makes sense that the more time that has passed the better, and also is good to hear that at 21 days can already detect some infections I know not all of course.
My final question just to conclude, its seen or normal that a negative 4gen rapid test like mine at 32days , turns positive later?
All the best

I have never seen a test which was negative at 28 days become positive.  It’s very rare.

This completes this thread which will now be closed.  Please don’t worry.  EWH
