Hello ,
Had a question regarding syphillis and doxy,
If I had a syphillis exposure and a week later started first dose of doxy would that prevent an infection or is 7 days to late to prevent infection?,
How often do you guys see chancre develop in 10 days? I read online it can take 10-90 median of 21 days so want to see what’s the average time of appearance and how often it shows up within 10 days.
My exposure was receiving fellatio, from a man no penis insertion to mouth just him licking the head and shaft for few seconds . I did not have any sex with my wife until my 6th dose of taking doxycycline which is 3rd day did I put her at risk ? Never developed a chancre
Can a chancre be not visible and still transmit ?

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. The encounter you describe was low risk- syphilis is relative rare ad acquisition of syphilis From receipt of oral sex is an uncommon route of infection. Further, having taken doxycycline for a week assures that you will not develop syphilis and could not have transmitted syphilis to a sexual partner while taking it. Syphilis, while not entirely cured, would be non-infectious after a day or two of doxycycline.
On average syphilitic chancres develop around 21 days following acquistion of infection.
I would not be worried, either about having acquired syphilis or transmitting it to your wife. EWH

Hello doc I think you misunderstood,
I had sex with my wife on my 3rd day of doxy, Which is two pills a day so I had taken 6 doses by the time I had sex with her I then had sex with her on the 5th day of doxy and again on 11th day on doxy, Did I expose her if I was infected ? Like I said I started doxy 7 days after the exposure with no visible chancre or sore on my penis.
Could I have been infectious on when I started doxy on 7 days post exposure? I know doxy pep must be taken within 72hr but of effective is starting doxy 7 days after ? Could I have been infectious on 3rd day or 5th day or 11th day of doxy ?
How often do you see syphillis acquired from oral sex ?
In all the years of experience how often do you see chancres appear before 21 days ?

I understood. I repeat, in the unlikely event you were exposed to and acquired syphilis, you WOULD NOT be infectious to your wife while taking doxycycline, not after 3, 5, or 11 days of doxycycline.

As I also said, acquisition of syphilis from receipt of oral sex is rare.
I’ve rarely seen chancres appear before 10 days following acquisition of syphilis.
since most of this reply is repetitive, I’ll also repeat that I would not be worried.
