[Question #13478] Everything Right…I Thought

Greetings,
Thanks for your commitment to this site. I have read almost every question on this site, and although I could probably answer my own question, I would like your respected opinion due to my ongoing anxiety over the event.
I am a male who decided to try receptive anal sex almost 8 weeks ago. This is someone I did connect with online, but have been talking to for almost 3 years. I did ask HIV status beforehand, he said negative, but I still insisted on condom use. Condom was on before any contact occurred. My only real scare was at the end, it got stuck inside; the opening remained outside of my rectum. Could it have possibly come off sooner or if he had entered me again, the condom would have been pushed deeper inside?
I have spoken to him several times after the event. He assures he is negative and tested afterwards; also stating he was clean in all regards. Many times, you have advised others that most people tell the truth. I guess I am getting fixated on this.
Also, as it has been 8 weeks, I can definitively state I have had no typical ARS symptoms: no fever, no sore throat, etc, during this time. I try to find this reassuring. But, around week 6, I had a couple of days where I felt like one side of my face (eye and cheek) were burning. Was not constant and would come and go. Is this simply anxiety? Also had the same burning sensation on my side.
Again, I thank you for your amazing work. Hope you will be able to provide reassurance before I test.

Forgot to add: my stomach has been extra rumbling for the last week. No pain or discomfort, no blood in stool, and not diarrhea. Is this cause for concern or more anxiety?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. Thanks for reviewing other threads on the Forum. We make them available so clients can review them for their own information and guidance.
You are to be congratulated on your approach to the casual encounter you describe. You've done everything right. Well done!!!
I would believe your partner. Not only do most people tell the truth but he did respond with reassuring answers and he's someone you have known well enough to interact with for several years
It is not that uncommon for condoms to remain in place as a person withdraws following sex. That the end remained visible is strong evidence that the condom did it's job. If you had reentered your partner, the end of the condom would not have remained in place but would have been pushed into him.
The ARS typically occurs within 30 days of an exposure if it is going to occur. The symptoms you describe are not suggestive of HIV and as you point out, would not come and go as you describe.
Personally I see little reason for testing at this point although I understand that on occasion folks appreciate the added reassurance that a negative test provides. Should you opt to test, I am confident that it will be negative and that the results will be entirely conclusive
Please don't worry. EWH

Dr Hook-
Thank you for your response. Point of clarification, I was the receptive partner. Unsure if that changes your answer or approach; I hope not, as you have provided great assurance.
It was a one time event for me. I do not plan on doing it again and hope to move on from this.
