[Question #13501] Herpes risk

On the 7 of October 2025 at around 7:30pm I saw a CSW/escort. During the encounter I made one fatal mistake. I touched her right bare bum cheek (I think I either squeezed or slapped it) and then vigorously masturbated myself for around 30 seconds maybe a minute but then stopped realising that is a herpes risk if she had a herpes sore on her bum. I do not recall seeing any obvious lesions on her bum but the room was dimly lit (you could still see not too badly though) and I was standing around 30cm to 50cm (maybe a bit more) away from her so I cannot say for certain I did not see any lesions. I looked on her onlyfans and saw she posted pictures of her butt and saw that her lower butt had no lesions or anything but her upper butt was covered so I could not get coverage on that. Originally I thought the exposure was no risk or minimal risk at worst and did not worry about it and did not check my penis for any sores. However, after around a week I started to get really worried and booked in to see my GP 9 days after the exposure. My GP did a genital exam on me and found nothing abnormal on my skin and no lymph node swelling. A few hours after the doctor I got pain in the tip of my penis and went to another doctor surgery to get my urethera PCR swabbed for herpes. The day after that to avoid doubt I got another uretheral swab test for herpes again. Both returned a negative result for HSV 1 and HSV 2. My GP did a second genital exam on me 15 days after exposure and found nothing abnormal on my skin and no lymph node swelling again. If I touched a herpes sore what is the chance I contracted herpes in this situation? Is it worth me getting a Western Blot test in 3 months? I am in a relationship and due to extreme stress acted out and did this.

I forgot to ask as well does my doctor checking me 9 and 15 days afterward and finding everything normal reduce the risk of me attaining herpes? I am concerned that any symptoms if I got them early in the incubation period may have healed by the time my doctor saw me on day 9.

I think the possibility that you acquired herpes by smacking her bottom and then masturbating yourself is just incredibly remote! The average time from infection to symptoms of HSV is 5.5 days, and you are well past that. I would be totally and utterly shocked if you got herpes from the experience that you describe. And no, I don't think you need a Western blot, but if you can't stop worrying, you could do that. I just don't think it is medically necessary at all, but sometimes, peace of mind is essential.

Thanks for the response Terri. Thinking back I am pretty sure I squeezed their butt or touched it not slapped it. Does that make a difference to the risk of exposure? I am confident that if there were no herpes lesions on her butt the risk is no risk at all. What about if there were herpes lesions/sores on her bum at the time I squeezed/touched it? Like I said I do not remember seeing any on her though but I am not totally sure though. I did ask her the other day if she had any blisters or sores on her butt when she saw me and said absolutely not. For what that is worth.
Hypothetically if I attained herpes from this encounter if I got symptoms on day 2 is it possible they could have fully healed before my doctor inspected me 9 days (8 days and 21 hours to be exact) after exposure? Looking back I also think I checked my penis in a few times a few days after the exposure and did not see any lesions however I do not remember which days that was on. Also, from memory, when I did my checks I did it sitting on my bed and had trouble bending over to see it so I may not have gotten the best look either.
I am just overly worried since I am in a committed relationship and acted totally out of character largely due to stress and some personal problems right now. In all honesty, the only STD I really fear is herpes. Gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis are all quite rare and also curable and HIV is exceedingly rare and hard to catch.
I will consider getting a blood test in a few months. I am not sure.

The kind of contact with your hand doesn't matter. And I think if there were lesions there, you would have felt them with your hand - herpes lesions on the buttocks scab and the skin would have felt different than normal skin to your hand. If you had acquired HSV, it is likely that you would have felt symptoms on your penis, even if you didn't see anything unusual. And I doubt that any lesions would have healed so quickly that your doctor didn't see them
Honestly, this situation is so low risk, if I were you, I wouldn't give it a second thought. But I hear that you have a regular partner and worry a bit. I honestly don't think you need to worry about this.
If you do a blood test, use the LabCorp test - it is by far the best one available now. but I don't think you need to

Thanks for the response Terri. I feel alot better right now but I still do not want to risk it. My only exposure has only been protected and unprotected sex with my partner who igg tested negative for hsv 1 and 2 at the start of our relationship. I really want to make sure I am negative since it would not be fair and unethical to put her at risk. I do have a few more questions though. I am confident there was none though since they would likely stand out. Also I checked her onlyfans and saw that 3 days later she posted a video without any sores on her bum. Given herpes lesions on the butt take a few weeks to heal combined with the fact I do not remember seeing any I would take it there was none there at the time.
1). Is it too late to get a baseline blood test?
2). Is it true new infection herpes lesions take 7-10 days to heal? So I am assuming if doctor did not see any then it is quite likely I had none that healed in between being infected and seeing them.
3). I am assuming if there were sores on her bum it would still be a very low risk situation? I am a bit worried though since I know someone who insisted they were infected with genital hsv 1 by putting their finger in someone's mouth and then fingering themselves straight after.
4). I had two negative uretheral swab tests for pain in the tip of my penis for both hsv 1 and hsv 2. Given the virus sheds alot in new infections is this reasonable evidence I did not get infected?
Thanks

I did have pain in the tip of my penis but got it uretheral swabbed for herpes which came back negative.
What is the window period for herpes? I have heard 2 to 10 days, 2 to 14 days and 2 days to 21 days? Which is it?
