Hello. I recently got a comprehensive std test and all my results came back negative. For HIV specifically. This past weekend I received oral from a man with no condom and I am very concerned I may have contracted HIV. My anxiety is through the roof and a cannot even function. Should I be worried about contracting HIV through unprotected oral sex?

Also keep in mind I had oral sex from this person multiple times prior to my initial test

Welcome to our Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment.  Further, I should point out that you are receiving a reply more quickly than is usual.  I happened to be on the Forum when your question arrived.  Any follow-ups may take longer.

You are not at risk for HIV.  The CDC conservatively estimates that the risk of acquiring HIV from receipt of oral sex from an HIV infected, untreated partner is less than one infection in 10,000 encounters  (i.e. there is a more than 99.99% chance you would not be infected).  These figures are conservative.  Further, apparently you do not know whether or not your partner has HIV- statistically it is unlikely.  Most people, even those with multiple partners do not have HIV.  Finally, there has NEVER been a case of HIV proven to have been acquired from receipt of oral sex- you are not going to be the first.

While the decision to test is an individual issue, personally, I see little reason for even testing.  Please don't worry.  EWH

Thank you for getting back to me. I’m really scared my initial comprehensive test results were wrong. I know I’m in my head. I just started an outpatient program for mental health. I constantly think negative. I’m just so scared that I have HIV, and every time I wake up the anxiety kicks in immediately. My intrusive thoughts are sabotaging me. I do not know if this person had HIV.

Whether or not your partner had HIV is irrelevant since no one gets HIV from receiving unprotected oral sex.  Perhaps if you shared your concerns and my responses with your counselor they can provide additional support.  EWH---
