[Question #13529] Possible short contact and saliva

Hi Doctors,

Thanks for everything that you are doing.

I visited a CSW. I believe she is pretty cautious as she she put a condom on me the first thing we did together, so we performaed protected sex for oral. She claimed she got tested regularly. While she was on top and trying to help me penetrate, I got flaccid, and we realized the condom slipped off and stopped trying. I think the possibility that I ever penetrated was low beacuse I was not fully erect the whole time and I assumed either of us would notice and feel if I penetrated. Therefore, I think the penetration didn't happen and even if it did, it was probably in a split second. I confirmed with her and she said no. At the same time, there was for sure some contact of our genitals, something like frottage but unintentional, after the condom slipped off but before we realized.

I also let her spit in my month.

Do I need to worry about anything? Any PEP needed?

Thanks!

Welcome back. Glancing back at your several previous questions, I'm sure you can predict my replies this time. With likely no penetration, there was little or no risk -- as was the case for most if not all the sexual experiences you have asked us about. And in one of your questions a few years ago, we discussed that testing for HIV or STIs generally isn't recommended or need after any single exposure, even if not condom protected. Rather than testing after single events, it's better to get tested periodically or after several exposure events.

In any case, simple genital contact without penetration is little or no risk anyway. Neither is contact with saliva, either genitally or orally.

"Do I need to worry about anything?" Nope. "Any PEP needed?" Definitely not.

Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you!

If the penetration actually happened for a second, would it change your evaluation?

Best,

No it would not. You describe a partner unlikely to have any STI and with virtually zero chance of having HIV. Even if she were infected, such brief penetration would carry little risk. Even entirely unprotected vaginal sex for several minutes with this partner would not lead me to advise even HIV testing, let alone PEP.---

OK -- That completes the two follow-up comments and replies included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful.
