My 69 yo girlfriend contracted hsv2 fifty years ago.  Her last outbreak was thirty years ago.

Someone who has been infected for that long and with no outbreaks for 30 years is unlikely to be shedding virus very often at all.  Condoms reduce transmission by 65% and antivirals by 48%.  That's having sex about twice per week when she has no symptoms.  Hope that is helpful---
