[Question #13555] Saliva on toilet paper

I apologize as this a weird question.

Let’s say someone recently became infected with HSV1 orally, so no mounted immune response, and was sucking their thumb then used a piece of toilet paper getting saliva from their thumb on the toilet paper. If they wipe and where the saliva on the toilet paper comes in contact with their genitals(female) could this result in auto-inoculation ? This is assuming no cold sore present, but possible shedding virus in saliva.

To add, I have seen in your other forum that you mention clothing absorbs the virus, would toilet paper be similar in that it would absorb the virus?

I think that's quite a far fetched possibility and one that I don't think at all would result in a genital HSV 1 infection.  NO. But it's fine to ask a weird question here!

Good to know you think it’s unlikely!
Is it correct that toilet paper would absorb virus similar to how clothes would? I know that since the virus gets absorbed that this helps prevent transmission.

Yes, the toilet paper would absorb virus, like clothing does.  That's what makes this a no risk situation.
