[Question #13606] To be clarified

Good evening to all the doctors,
I’ll keep it short and sweet :
1. Do you think we will ever see a vaccine against HIV in the coming years ? I think we all agree that would make the world a better place.
2. I just wanted to confirm that having Asymptomatic Haemophilus ducreyi would not change the reliability of the following tests taken 9 months post exposure :  HIV combo(HiV 1 and 2 antibodies and P24 antigen),Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Chlamydia(urine), Gonorrhea(urine)?

Thanks and have a good day

Welcome back to the forum. Thanks for your "short and sweet" questions; my replies are similar.

1. Science has been working on vaccines against HIV ever since the virus was discovered over 30 years ago. Although scientific progress is being made, it is unlikely an effective vaccine to prevent HIV will be available in the next few years. Everyone of course agrees that this "would make the world a better place." Let's keep hoping.

2. There are no medical conditions that have any effect on the reliability or timing of the test results for HIV or any other STI and certainly chancroid or H. ducreyi infection (with or without symptoms) could have any such effect. Your test results all are completely reliable.

Let me know if anything isn't clear.

hey thanks for your answer. I have read it carefully and I now understand that There are no medical conditions that have any effect on the reliability or timing of the test results for HIV or any other STI, and that my test results all are completely reliable, as you wrote.

That said, (excuse my stubborn head) I’m still a bit unsure about the part where you mentioned: ''  and certainly chancroid or H. ducreyi infection (with or without symptoms) could have any such effect.  ''

Could you please clarify whether it actually has any effect on all tests or not? Just to clearly confirm that Asymptomatic Haemophilus ducreyi would not change the reliability of the following tests taken 9 months post exposure :  HIV combo(HiV 1 and 2 antibodies and P24 antigen),Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Chlamydia(urine), Gonorrhea(urine)

I hope you don’t mind me asking for a bit more clarification — I just want to make sure I fully understand everything correctly. Wishing you a great and blessed Sunday!

Oops -- typographic error. That statement should read "could NOT have any such effect." I apologize for the error.---

Thanks for the clarification , it was a bit confusing at first and no need for apology.

So, to sum it up and put it all together:
Having Chancroid or H. ducreyi infection (with or without symptoms) does not affect the reliability or timing of any of the tests I listed in my initial post : (HIV combo(HiV 1 and 2 antibodies and P24 antigen),Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Chlamydia(urine), Gonorrhea(urine)?
(Just replying by confirmed or not confirmed will help )

Thanks and Happy holidays !

Your understanding is correct, but I would clarify with "as far as we know". There has been no research on this and no data exist, but no other medical conditions are known to interfere with these tests so I cannot imagine that chancroid or H. ducreyi would do so. Further, I have to wonder why asymptomatic H. ducreyi is on your mind. This is believed to be rare if it occurs at all. Two other threads discussed this recently in more and I have to wonder if you're the same person who asked those questions with a different account and username (which is against forum policy, by the way. Please accept my apology if it's just a coincidence.)

That completes the two follow-up comments and replies included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful. Best wishes and stay safe.
