[Question #13613] Do I have Herpetic Whitlow?

I am negative for hsv1 and 2, Roche IGG. I know hsv1 can be missed, but please assume I am truly negative.
I kissed someone and am worried that I may have contracted hsv1, I peeled my lip and got a sore, but I don’t think it was a cold sore.
I have a bad habit of sucking my thumb and my thumb has a big crack on the knuckle.
On Tuesday evening my thumb started itching really bad right next to the crack and I scratched it so much that it looks like there was skin missing with some clear fluid serous fluid. This spot stopped itching once that happened. It never really got worse after that, it kind of just dried out and was a red spot with white flaky skin two days later. By 4 days later it was just a pink spot with white dry flaky skin.
Is there any chance this could be herpetic whitlow? Everything I read it looks like it doesn’t heal that fast by 4 days out it would be getting worse without treatment, not better?
Could this have been a mild case? Or is that not a thing with this?
I also worry because I was using the bathroom and accidentally touched my outer labia with the my thumb and am concerned I transferred to my genitals.
I was never able to get it swabbed.
Do you think there is any realistic chance of this being herpetic whitlow or can I be pretty confident that it was something else based on how fast it healed?

This doesn't sound like whitlow to me. If you are indeed negative for HSV 1, and acquired whitlow, I think your symptoms would be far more dramatic and lasted much longer and had more symptoms, like blistering of the skin with significant discomfort. So I think, based on the information you've given me here, that this is something different than herpes whitlow.

Have you ever seen a case of herpetic whitlow, new or recurrent heal that fast, in under a week? My main concern is that I maybe acquired an oral infection and infected my thumb at the same time and am just now showing whitlow symptoms, but maybe an oral infection is making it seem milder?

No, I have never seen that. The whitlow I've seen takes many days to heal, is exquisitely painful and looks very blistery and messy.

That’s a relief.
I do have some more questions about HSV1.
*Let’s say I acquired an infection from one person, and then kissed another person. If the second person also has HSV1 could I reinfected again in the mouth or would the existing infection already prevent that from happening since it’s already in the mouth, even if I don’t have antibodies built up yet?
*If you someone already has oral hsv1, can kissing another person with an active cold sore cause their own infection to flare up?
*Do you think I can put the worry about touching my labia on accident behind me?
* would you be able to peel a cold sore while it’s still blistered? I made a sore on my lip by peeling it, but I’m concerned that it was a large cold sore at the blister stage and maybe just sped it up into the ulcer phase by peeling it.

Sorry, in addition to the previous questions as well.
Can you be reinfected by the same person’s hsv1? Like say someone has a cold sore and gives that to you. In the beginning stages of the infection, under 4 months, could any other cold sores you have be reinfection from that person or would it be a recurrence of the infection you acquired from them?

The existing infection would keep you from getting it again

I suppose that's possible but unlikely

More sores would not be a reinfection, it would be a recurrence.
Terri.
