[Question #13614] Really Scared

Hello Doctor, I would like to discuss and get clarification about an incident that happened yesterday evening. At home I did a clean shave of my beard. I really didnot notice if I introduced any small cuts during shaving. I then planned to get a haircut. My regular barbershop was closed so went to a new barber shop. When I went there i was made to wait for 5 minutes. Before the barber started i clearly asked her to clean the clippers. So she applied some kind of a spray which was like a foam applied on the clipper and she rubbed it with paper and started cutting. Then when she had to trim my side burns and my back of the head she wanted to use a half razor blade. She removed the half blade from the holder which i think was used previously used and then took a new half blade from a cover. She open the cover, removed the blade and attached to the holder and used it. The scissors and the comb that were used for my haircut were not sanitized. The blade holder used to hold the half blade was also not sanitized. After my haircut was complete, I constantly checked my back of the head with my palm to see if there was any blood from the cut and I didnot notice anything. Afyer I reached home I did notice a very small cut with red dot near my sideburn.
I think there was minor cut which opened and that got bled and got dried. It was a very a small red dot. Please pardon me for sounding like a paranoid. Since the comb, scissor and the blade holder were not sanitized, is there any kind of hiv risk or other stds associated with this incident. If the haircutting equipment were not cleaned and if the barber had any cuts on her palms as she was not using gloves. Im really scared. Please advise. Do I need any testing. Its not even one day.

Welcome to the forum. A few simple facts should calm your fears: you are not at risk fro HIV.
Apparently you have had rather poor education about HIV transmission risks. Nobody in the world is known to have been infected by contaminated sharp instruments used in hair cutting, shaving, cosmetology, etc. It doesn't matter if a previous customer had HIV or how well the instruments were cleaned or sterilized. It also does not matter if the barber might have HIV (but depending on where in the world you are, you can assume she is not infected anyway). Most barbers do not use gloves: there is no need. You were at no risk at all from this event. You do not need testing. Please do your best to stop worrying! And consider a little bit of self education online about true HIV transmission risks (but use professional or professionally moderated sites).
I hope this information is helpful and calms your fears! Let me know if anything isn't clear.
