[Question #13630] Clarify incident

A lap dance at a club in Amsterdam. I was fully clothed the whole time; she was only wearing a thong. It lasted 5 minutes. I kissed her breasts, including her nipples, for a few moments, nothing more. Then, 87 days later, I took a 4th generation combination test.

I want to know if the risk of the interaction is absolutely 0% for HIV, and if the test—it was just one single test—is also 100% safe. Please if you can explain why for both would be great. Thanks you

Welcome back to the forum.

From your previous question a couple years ago, I have the impression you are more worried than necessary about HIV risks from non-intimate exposures. You'll never be at risk for HIV until and unless you have unprotected sex with an infected person (that is, with penile penetration) or if you share drug injection needles with other persons. The event you describe here is zero risk; the virus is not transmitted by oral contact with breasts or nipples. I'm glad for your negative test result, but you did not need to be tested on account of this event. The HIV AgAb (4th generation) blood tests always are conclusive 6 weeks or more after the last possible exposure.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thanks dr Hunter, there is indeed an irrational fear regarding HIV that for me is very difficult to control, not sure why. If you had any advice, I'l will gladly take it. Thanks for your answer, hope I have no need to come back here in the future.

I'm no psychologist, but if "very difficult to control" implies it's on your mind much of the time and interfering with day to day activities and happiness, you might consider professional counseling. This sort of problem never clears up on its own or through willpower.

Thanks for the thanks. I'm glad to have helped a little.

I did another test now 1 year after exposure (Ac. Anti-HIV 1 y 2 + Ag. p24) and it was negative, felt the need to did a second test to be sure, I guess I can close this episode now.

Just to clarify one thing, are you actually the doctors answering these questions, or do you have assistants or AIs answering for you? Sorry if you feel I am out of place with this question.

No assistants -- just us three moderators in person. Also, our replies always are our own -- although sometimes we consult with one another or with other experts on complex issues, nothing you see on this forum is AI in any form.

It's good to hear an additional HIV test was negative, but of course there was no other possibility.

That completes the two follow-up comments and replies included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful. Best wishes and stay safe.
