[Question #13645] Penis to Penis Frottage

I had penis-to-penis contact with a guy whose HIV status I do not know. We were rubbing our penises together. The tip of my penis touched the tip of his penis, so his pre-ejaculate (pre-cum) or his cum may have touched the tip of my penis. He also used his hand, which might have had his pre-cum/cum on it, to masturbate my penis.

Therefore, his pre-cum/cum may have touched the tip of my penis and possibly my urethra. Is this a risk for HIV?

Is the risk of HIV the same as penetrative sex because the tip of the penis and the urethra are mucous membranes and can be infected? If infected secretions come into contact with them, is there a risk of HIV?

Thanks Doctor

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  The activities that you describe- exposure to a partner's genital secretions through rubbing your penis with another person's and receipt of masturbation are not risk factors for acquistion of an STI, including HIV.  It is statistically unlikely that your partner had HIV or another STI but even if he did, this was not an exposure which put you at risk.  I see no reason for concern related to the activities you have described.  EWH---

I am just wondering whether my exposure is not the same risk as anal intercourse, since the tip of the penis can also come into contact with secretions.

Is it really no risk for HIV? I am worried because I did not use a condom during penis-to-penis frottage, although I always use a condom for penetration.

No, it is not the same risk- that's why I told you that there was no risk.  You described forms of masturbation which is considered safe, no HIV risk by the CDC, the WHO and by experts in the field.  It is not the least bit uncommon for persons engaged in mutual masturbation to get each other's genital secretions on each other in the manner you describe but there are no proven cases of HIV acquired in this way.  Condoms certainly should always be used when penetration but are not needed with the activity is mutual masturbation.  EWH---

Thanks, Dr. Hook. I understand now that frottage and mutual masturbation are not a risk for HIV.

However, today (Friday), I noticed some bleeding from my index finger while doing housework. It appears to be an old wound that likely existed before the frottage activity, which took place on Wednesday, but the bleeding started again today because I was doing heavy work.

This means the wound may already have been present at the time of the frottage, even though I did not notice any bleeding during the activity. The wound seemed healed at that time but reopened today (Friday).

Would this situation pose any risk for HIV infection? I am concerned because I may have used that hand to touch genital secretions possible pre-cum not cum, even though I did not notice any bleeding at the time. Does an old wound like this create a possible route for HIV transmission, or is there still no risk? I quite worry now. thanks you doctor

However, on Wednesday, during the activity, I was not completely sure whether there was any bleeding. I did not notice or see any blood, but I am worried that there might have been some bleeding that I did not notice, since the wound was still able to bleed on Friday. Thanks ypu doctor please forgive me that ask I worried.

The previous cut on your hand, which may or may have been open at the time of your encounter, would not put you at risk for acquistion of HIV in the unlikely circumstance that your partner had HIV While perhaps  a theoretical risk, any genital secretions that got on the cut would have not gotten into your blood stream to cause infection- the flow of blood was outward, not inward.  Please don't worry.
