[Question #13683] HSV protected oral, mutual mastibation

Hello, I am worried about an encounter just over 2 weeks ago with a escort.
I had protected oral, she applied some lubricant to her vagina and I rubbed her, fingered her once.
After I cleaned my hands snd genitals with a baby wipe, then washed my hands with soap and water.
Just over a week later I felt paranoid and felt a unusual sensation in my perineum (not sure if in my head) then developed a sore anus. It looked red, no blisters. I applied daktacort and 2-3 days later is pretty much back to normal, still no blisters.
1. Am I at risk of a STD?
2. Does this sound like HSV?
3. Should I get a HSV IGG test?
4. Can I resume sexual intercourse with my partner?
Many thanks

I honestly don't see anything in your post that posed a risk for the acquisition of HSV or any other STI.  Good for you for using a condom for receiving oral sex (that's what you meant, right?)  I don't think you should test for herpes, no the tests aren't terrific yet, and I don't see any reason you cannot continue to have sex with a regular partner.

Hello, thank you for the reply.
I don't believe she or me transferred any of her bodily fluid to my skin, but even if this had happened, would this change your opinion?
She did rub my testicle maybe my perineum.
I just found the symptoms I experienced to be strange!
To be related and to have a sore anus would she not have had to touch my anus? Which definitely did not happen.
Thanks

We really aren't concerned about minimal bodily fluids being transferred in a situation like your - there really needs to be some skin to skin contact with vulnerable tissues, which didn't happen in your situation.
I can't think why your anus would be sore if there was no contact there.  Perhaps it is due to something unrelated.

Hello Terri, thank you for the reply.
Please may you explain why genital to hand to genital isn't a concern and have you ever seen or heard of this resulting in HSV2?
What would you describe as a true risk?
If you develop symptoms, would they typically result in blister in a first outbreak?
What would the percentage accuracy of a igg test be at 1mth, 2mth and 3mths?
Would i be right in saying you are an expert in the field of hsv with 30 plus years of experience?
Many thanks

I have never seen hand to genital contact resulting in HSV, no.  Usually, the contact is relatively brief, virus is lost between hand and genitals and exposure to air (vs genital to genital contact) is less likely to result in infection.  If you read through responses from Dr. Handsfield and Drl Hook, you will also see responses indicating that hand to genital contact is not a real risk for transmission.
Genital to genital or oral to genital contact or oral to oral contact present the risks for HSV transmission.  Typically, symptoms would present within 2-10 days and be blisters, yes, or ulcerations if blisters break before they are noticed.  And IgG test at 6 weeks picks up about 70% of infections.  Three months is about as good as these tests get.
Yes, I think I'm quite good at HSV with 40 years of experience and 42 publications in high level journals like JAMA and New England Journal of Medicine.

You're welcome
