[Question #13697] Hiv- Follow Up #13687

Hi Doctor,

I am sorry to come back, however i have one small doubt which i think i missed earlier to have clarify.

From my last interaction #13687 , i would like to add one more point to my exposure.

Right before  the protected sex, i did shave my genital area. I did creates razor burn, micro cuts and micro abrasions.  Also for me i had a small pimple on pelvic area which i popped up, causing it to bled a little. This would he like 2 hours before sex.

Do you think, it can create a risk for me. If vaginal fluids which are outside condom, comes in contact with shaved area or popped pimple?

Appreciate your informative response on it. I can certainly feel myself spiraling into these thoughts and getting anxiety.

Thanks.

Welcome back. However, you continue to overthink the potential risks here. There are no known cases of HIV or other STI transmission on account of minor razor nicks, razor burn, or pimples. Because in theory they might raise the risk, they are often listed in HIV/STI prevention advice. But much of that advice goes back to the earliest days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and were never proved by research or clinical experience. These factors do not alter the advice you had in your previous thread.

The bottom line:  Without actual intercourse, you can always assume that sex does not transmit HIV or other STIs. Or at least the risk is low enough that it should be ignored.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Doctor,
Your statement -
The bottom line:  Without actual intercourse, you can always assume that sex does not transmit HIV or other STIs. Or at least the risk is low enough that it should be ignored.”
But in my case i had protected sex with the massage girl, and had shaved my genital area few hours back. So it counts as act of intercourse or not? I am confused with the last statement you made.
If it’s counted as intercourse, am i at risk then?

Sorry, I should have specified unprotected intercourse. Even with a condom, there is always some small STI risk, but shaving or not makes no difference. Even with condom use, you should take care to choose partners with care and consider testing from time to time (after several such exposures) for common STDs like gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV and syphilis.---

Hi i was looking into the impact of using oil as lubricant with condom, there are medical papers which says following-

Even a small amount of oil can degrade latex in as little as 60 seconds. While the condom may appear intact, the oil causes the material to become more porous and creates micro-tears—holes too small to see but large enough for viruses like HIV to pass through. Mineral oil can reduce a condom's strength by up to 90% almost immediately. Oil acts as a solvent that dissolves the polymer chains in the latex, making the material fragile and unreliable as a barrier.

Here is the link to medical site

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2535978/#:~:text=Mineral%20oil%20lubricants%20cause%20rapid,(89)90018%2D8.

I am not more worried, because of using oil(3 drops may be), the protection is compromised. Can you please explain my risk, am I safe?

There is one more like from Dr, Fransisco
Where he says, oil lubricant can create tiny holes, which are not visible by naked eyes, through which hiv can pass. I am unable to rest after getting to know this.

You're reading old, outdated medical literature. It may be that oil creates microscopic weaknesses, but there has never been a known case of HIV or other STD transmitted through a condom with such a problem. If it doesn't break wide open, protection is complete.

Like many or most worried persons, the internet is not your friend. You are being drawn to information that increases your fears and not finding or ignoring contrary information. I suggest you stop searching online for any of these things. It isn't worth it.

That concludes this thread. Please note the forum policy against repeated anxiety driven questions. Any more about your irrational fears from your near zero risk exposure will be deleted without reply and without refund of the posting posting fee. Thank you for your understanding.
