On 1/11/26 I received an unprotected bj. She said she had two partners her entire life. It lasted 20 seconds.
On 1/15/26 my doctor gave me azithromycin 1000 mg twice a day for two days. He also gave me cefuroxime 500 mg twice a day for 5 days. These were given to prevent STD. On day 1 and day two of taking the meds i had diarrhea. This was 4 and 5 days post risk.
Six days after encounter I woke up in the middle of the night with a minor skin irritation / rash on chest. It was a small area of chest. It lasted an hour or so then disappeared.
Seven days after the event I wake up sweaty. I took my temp at that time and it was normal.
I also had some genital warts removed years ago.
1. Did I have a risk?
2. Do I even need testing?
3. What do you think about the diarrhea, waking up sweaty (no fever). And skin irritation that lasted an hour or two?
4. Can I sleep with my regular partner unprotected ?
I just want to move on with your ok.

I just wanted to mention that I think the diarrhea maybe came from the antibiotics. The skin irritation maybe came from laying on my stomach while asleep.

Welcome back to the Forum. From what your partner told you, she was low risk and even if she were not, this was a very low risk exposure. Brief responses:
1. The risk of infection of any sort was miniscule. There was no meaningful risk of HIV
2. Testing is a personal decision. In your situation I would not bother to test.
3. The diarrhea you experienced was likely a side effect of the medication you took. Both azithromycin and doxycyline regularly cause diarrhea.
4. Another personal choice. In your situation I would not hesitate to have sex with my regular partner.
5. See above
6. There was no meaningful risk for HIV from the events you describe.
I encourage you to move forward without concern. EWH

The antibiotics I took were azithromycin and cefuroxime (not doxy)

1. Did my antibiotics likely cause the diarrhea?
2. 6 days after encounter I woke up in the middle of the night w/ a minor rash on chest. It was a small area of chest. It lasted an hour or so then disappeared. What are your thoughts on this?
3. 7 days after the event I wake up sweaty. I took my temp at that time and it was normal. What are your thoughts about this?
4. Should I be worried about the Ars considering what I told you?
5. Did I even have a risk for hiv?
6. Should I move on and stop worrying?

These are largely repetitive questions. Once again.:
1. Most probably.
2. I have no idea what this transient rash was however, it is most unlikely to be a sign of HIV or any other STI.
3. You need to stop focusing on every minor ache and pain or episode in which you find yourself perspiring. Try to relax.
4. No, there are no proven cases in which a person has acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex. You are not going to be the first.
5. See above.
6. Yes

Thank you Dr. Hook. This morning I was very very anxious. I had one regular bowel movement and one diarrhea. I think this was caused because of my nerves.
1. Is this concerning with regards to hiv Ars or other stds?
2. Should I just forget this incident and move on with my wife?
Thank you

Final response:
Your anxiety is unwarranted. As said above your exposure was low risk and virtually no risk for HIV. You need to take a deep breath and move forward without concern.
1. No
2. Yes.
AS tests for persons with the ARS are always positive, you can prove you don’t have the ARS with a negative HIV RNA PCR or 4th generation HIV test ( neither of which is scientifically needed). If you cannot move forward I suggest seeking confidential counseling to do so. I say this out of concern for you, nothing more. EWH
