Thank you for your invaluable service.

Drunk, I went to a gay sex club in San Francisco, not the most salubrious place.  I got involved with another stranger and we frenched kissed vigorously for a few minutes on and off.  We mutually masturbated and did frottage.  At one point he gave me oral for about 30 seconds to a minute or so; I tried to reciprocate but basically only had his penis in my mouth for seconds.  I had an ulcer under my tongue from where I bit my tongue the day before.

Guilty and worried.  Could you please advise on risks (including oral gonorrhea) and the best time to be tested.

Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I would not be concerned about HIV from the exposure you describe.  There is no risk of HIV fromdeep kissing, frottage, or mutual masturbation.  There are no proven cases of HIV acquired from receipt of oral sex.  The estimated risk of getting HIV IF your partner had untreated HIV is less than 1 infection in 10,000 exposures.  Th estimate is conservative and the true risk may be lower.  The brevity of your exposure likely makes your risk lower still.  I would not be concerned of HIV from th events you describe.  EWH---

Thank you, Dr Hook.   What are the risks for other STIs?

I am intending to get labs done in about three weeks for STIs.

Is that a good timeline?

The risk for STIs is also small.  The only activity associated with risk was your giving and brief receipt of oral sex.  The major STI acquired from oral sex is gonorrhea.  You can get conclusive results from a urine test and swab test for gonorrhea and chlamydia any time more than 3-4 days after your exposure.  I would not b concerned about other STIs but if you wish to test for syphilis or HIV, blood tests will provide reliable results after 6 weeks.  The risk for all of these STIs is very small.

On follow-up remaining.   EWH
