[Question #13750] Chlamydia / Gonorrhea

Hi,

Just over 3 months ago I had protected vaginal sex with a brothel escort. The condom remained in tact throughout the entirety of intercourse.

As a precautionary, I took azithromycin to hopefully clear any potential chlamydia.

I then also did a urine test at the doctors, but I stupidly wasn’t concentrating at the time and did the first 2/3 of my urine in the toilet and then my remaining 1/3 of stream in the testing cup. These results came back negative.

However, last night what’s worried me is that my partner has told me that “she thinks she has thrush as it stings when she urinates and wipes”.

This has triggered my anxiety and I have been reading this morning that my urine test results will likely not be accurate due to it being end of stream and now I am panicking.

I know I have asked a question before re this scenario, but I would really appreciate your advice on whether I need to go and re-test and whether I should be worried?
I am also not displaying any symptoms.

Welcome back to the Forum although I'm sorry you felt the need. Much of what I'm about to say will be repetitive.  You have PROVEN you did not acquire gonorrhea or other STI from the low risk encounter that you described.  You need to accept this an not let your guilt/anxiety over what you now consider a misstep let you think that any possible untoward genitourinary sign of symptom that you or your partner experiences if an STI.  It is not.  There is no need for testing.  There is no need for concern.  If you cannot accept this, I suggest that you seek confidential counseling to help you move forward.  Clearly your guilt anxiety is weighing heavily upon you.  EWH---

Thank you for your response Dr. Hook. A further question in general - are these test results still usually reliable even if first-stream urine wasn’t captured ?

Thanks

Yes, even if the first stream/initiation of voiding is not captured the tests are still highly reliable.  EWH---
