Greetings,

I recently performed oral sex on a married co-worker. I am female, he is male. I am having a crisis now as my guilt has over taken me.

I was tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea via oral swab, waiting on tests  I am now very worried about hsv2? He states he does not have herpes- but im scared he could have an asymptomatic infection. Is my worrying validated? This was 10 days ago

Welcome to our Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment and hope that you'll find my reply reassuring.   Your partner is married and thus in unlikely to have an STI.  Further, compared to other possible sites of exposure, it is more difficult to infect the oro-pharynx/mouth than to infect genital sites.  You have already proven that you did not get gonorrhea or chlamydia from your encounter and acquisition of oral HSV-2 through oral sex is exceedingly rare.  If you were going to develop oral lesions, that would occur within 10 days of exposure and since it has not happened, it is not going to occur.  In the absence of lesions, there is no reason to test in any way.  I urge you not to worry.

Thank you for the kind words. I guess I am worried about possible asymptomatic shedding and the fact that most sites tell me 2-14 or 2-21 day incubation period.

Please don't be misled by the internet.  If lesions do not appear within 10 days, they are not going to.  Further, you do not know that your partner has HSV-2 of, if he was, that he was shedding asymptomatically.  Epidemiologically, there is no meaningful chance that you acquired oral HSV-2 from the encounter you described. Please stay off the internet and do not worry.  EWH---
