[Question #13817] Prodrome transmission

Hello,
I'm a woman with GHSV-1. A few days ago, a friend did my makeup with some of her lip products (lipstick and lip gloss), she had used them a couple of minutes beforehand. The following day, she had a cold sore, not sure what type she has. If she had oral HSV2, is there a transmission risk?

The vast majority, probably more than 99%, of cold sores are HSV 1 not HSV 2.  HSV 2 is quite uncommonly oral and when it is there, it rarely recurs. So it is likely that her cold sore is HSV 1 which you already have, albeit in another location.  Once you have HSV 1 in one location (the same is true for HYSV 2) it is extremely unlikely you would then later acquire it in a new location.  So all in all, the risk of you getting HSV 1 orally from this experience is very low (if you don't have HSV 1 orally already)

Thank you for your quick response,
Hypothetically, if it was HSV-2, would there be a risk?

hypothetically, lip stick and lip gloss, if used immediately after someone with a cold sore, could be a risk.  but I would guess in this situation, one in a million
