[Question #13825] Cunnilingus

22 months ago I performed cunnilingus on a stripper.  I honestly never thought to get a throat swab.  I recently just started performing oral sex on my wife.  If I got infected with Gon or Chly would it persist this long?  Is my wife at risk?  After we had sex recently started having some penile tip discomfort constantly and after urination and ejaculation.  Could I have reinfected myself genitally?

Welcome. Thank you for your confidence in our services. I'm happy to help.

Cunnilingus is a very safe sexual activity:  all STIs are very rare or nonexistent after cunnilingus, even if the female partner has an active STI. Specifically both oral gonorrhea and chlamydia are very rare (my forum colleague Dr. Hook was the senior investigator on one of the main research studies on this topic). In addition, oral infection with both these STIs is cleared spontaneously within 2-6 weeks; no cases have ever been know to last anywhere near 22 months.

Your penile symptoms cannot possibly have anything to do with the cunnilingus event. STIs can't travel through the body to unexposed locations the answer to your question about self transfer to your penis (technical term auto-inoculation) is no; this is never known to occur. Your penile symptoms are typical for genitally focused anxiety -- i.e. anxiety magnifying trivial symptoms or even normal body sensations that otherwise would not be bothersome and perhaps not even noticed.

All is well. You don't need testing for anything, and your wife definitely is not at risk of any STI from you on account of the event nearly two years ago.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
