[Question #13829] HIV: French Kissing & Fingering

Dear Doctors

Please can you help me? I have been a tad anxious over the last week or so and finally I get to speak to STI pro’s.

I have spent the afternoon looking at previous answers on this site. I see that open-mouth deep French (sexual) kissing and fingering of the vagina are both No Risk for HIV.

These were exactly my events.

I met a girl (30) at a birthday party last month. We ended up going for a walk after the party and it was here that I fingered her vagina.

Throughout the night, and on the walk, we open-mouth deep French kissed (sometimes quite vigorously). I would say the French kissing lasted a total of 10-15 minutes overall.

I do not know this girl’s HIV status or testing history. There was no intercourse or oral sex whatsoever.

I have just started dating a new girl and it is going well. I would like to put the party events out of my head.

Questions

1. Can I move on with my new life and be worry-free about HIV? (everything is fine)

2. Can I begin unprotected intercourse with my current girlfriend?

Many thanks

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions and reviewing previous threads on the site.  In doing so you have answered your questions.  Your continuing anxiety is unwarranted.  The activities you describe, masturbation of your partner’s vagina and open mouth kissing, irrespective of the vigor and duration, were entirely no risk events in the statistically unlikely circumstance that your partner had HIV or any other STI. THUS:

1. Yes, everything is fine and you’re fine.
2.  There is no reason related to the encounter you have described to avoid unprotected intercourse with your current girlfriend.

I encourage you to move forward without concern.  EWH

Thank you for your reassurance, Dr Hook. It is disappointing (and somewhat alarming) that there is so much differing information on the internet about these events.

I do not know if this girl had cuts or ulcers in her mouth or throat before we started deep French kissing. I didn’t think I would ever need to ask for such an event!

So to summarise:

Even if this girl happened to be HIV positive (and not on treatment), I am absolutely in the clear for HIV and have nothing to worry about?

(and no need to test based on the science?)

Thank you for your help.

You are correct there is no risk here.  That is the case even if she had oral sores or cur , dental or gum disease.  There is no need for concern or for testing.  Time to move forward without concern.  EWH---

Thank you, Doctor, for your time.

From an educational perspective, please can you explain how I avoid HIV for my entire life?

I note that Dr Handsfield has advised a different user that they will never be at risk of HIV until they:

(1) have unprotected vaginal / anal sex;

(2) share drug injection needles; or

(3) have a deep actively bleeding wound and this is exposed to large amounts of another’s blood.

Is this still the case?

I appreciate that this is my last post before the thread is closed. Thank you for your assistance and for telling me I am worrying for nothing about my events.

Yes, the recommendations that Dr. Handsfield made still are appropriate recommendations who will keep you safe for acquisition of HIV. Follow those recommendations and you will have no problems.

As you noted above, this completes this thread, which will now be closed. Take care. EWH.
