[Question #13844] HIV/ blood borne concern from bite

Hello,
I struggle with really bad OCD and health anxiety. I work at a dog care center. When I was handling a dog recently I had a bite, it was a minor but it did break the skin ( I bled but very little). I know that prior to me someone else was handling the dog maybe 30 seconds to a minute before and the dog grazed their hand too (I believe it was also a small cut that bled a bit, but I am not sure). My worry is if if the individual that was bit before had their blood in the dog’s mouth how high or low is my risk for HIV or hepatitis ? Or is it a no risk event ? Statistics are really helpful to me and please let me know in your expert opinion if I need any STD tests because of this. Thank you kindly.

Welcome back to the Forum.  I’m sorry to hear of your bite but can assure you that no one has ever acquired HIV, hepatitis, or any other blood borne STI from the transfer of infectious material from person to person through transfer in a dog’s mouth.  There is zero reason for concern and no scientific reason for testing.  Please don’t worry.  EWH---
