[Question #13851] Unprotected oral sex

Hi Drs - so appreciate you! So it’s been awhile but I’m back for any updated guidance re: oral sex and hopefully reduce my anxiety. Over the past couple years, I’ve had approx 10-15 encounters with high-end female escorts (I am a man) that included unprotected oral sex both ways. No other unprotected activities. My significant other just informed me that her doctor during a routine checkup is seeing possible cervicitus and should be tested for STDs. I went ahead and got tested today for everything out of anxiety - results pending. I’ve never had a single symptom of gonorrhea (or anything else for that matter). In your experience, what are my odds that I contracted and gave her something? I’m just trying to ease my anxiety while I await the results. Thank you.

Welcome back to the Forum I'll be glad to comment. Not much has changed since our prior interactions, last one being over 3 years ago. Oral sex remains the lowest risk form of penetrative sexual activity. In part because most persons do not have oral STIs and in part because most exposures to persons with infections do not lead to infection. There remain no proven cases of HIV which have been acquired due to receipt of oral sex and the risk of acquiring HIV from cunnilingus on an untreated HIV infected persons is les than 1 infection in 10,000 exposures and probably lower.
Of bacterial STIs gonorrhea is the STI most commonly acquired and that is symptomatic in well over 90% of infected men.
Cervicitis is a non-specific term for possible inflammation at the uterine cervix. Most women with clinical cervicitis do not have STIs although a small proportion do. Testing is reasonable, both for your wife and for you. I anticipate that both of you will have negative tests. Please let us know the results of your tests- the information will be helpful to you and to others who visit the Forum. EWH

Hi Dr. Hook. Not surprisingly, your expectation was accurate. All full panel STD tests came back negative for both me and my partner. Thank you as always for your thoughtful response.

Just one more . I tested negative for Syphillis but my last unprotected oral encounter was 4.5 weeks ago. Am I ok? Also, what are the chances of getting Trich or MGen from unprotected oral? I did not get tests for either of these. Thx!

Your syphilis test results are strong evidence that you did not get syphilis from the encounter you described.
The is no meaningful transmission of either trichamonas or M. Genitalium through oral sex.
I encourage you to move forward without concern. Please don’t worry. Closing the thread now. EWH
